AAP says Goa CM Parrikar went 'overboard' in arresting Tejpal

Panaji, Mar 29(PTI): Aam Aadmi Party today accused Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of going "overboard" in "chasing" Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal but failing to arrest ministers involved in illegal mining scam.

"You (Parrikar) have chased Tejpal enough. But you have yet to arrest ministers involved in mining scam," AAP leader and South Goa candidate Swati Kerkar said addressing a public meeting here.

Tejpal is in jail here for allegedly raping his woman colleague at ThinkFest here last year.

AAP national leader Manish Sisodia was present at the public meeting.

Kerkar, the only woman candidate in Goa, is in fray against Narendra Sawaikar of BJP and Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco of Congress.

Kerkar alleged that Parrikar had been "inactive" against a select few involved in illegal mining.

"People will teach you a lesson in 2017 (Legislative Assembly elections) and also in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls," Kerkar said.

Earlier, AAP local leader Satish Sonak questioned government's "inaction" in not arresting miners involved in illegal mining scam.

"The state government has been silent against mine owners and whatever action taken is only against small fish," he alleged.

Rampant irregularities in mining have been found in Goa which is the largest exporter of iron ore.

The state crime branch has arrested several traders and former director of mines and geology department Arvind Lolienkar in this connection.

    My take:

‘Handling of Tejpal Case’ by the BJP Govt has become talk of the town.
Most say, Govt was quick to take action against Tejpal but failed to take any action against the rapist (a 7 year old child was raped in her school toilet in Jan. 2013 at Vasco)

Swati was trying to make similar reference in her speech

Looks like some political opponents, etc. are making a big issue about it.

    Rough translation would be..
50% electorate are women..Crime against women during the day..Today, women are not safe in the streets, house or in the village..Crimes against school kids etc but no arrest yet (culprits still at large).. not even the home minister bothered about it...we need to tell him now..as he has done enough in Tejpal case, he should do something in Goan cases too or else Goan will do something about him in 2017 (elections)

Shame on the part of this lady candidate of AAP party, instead of approving the Chief Minister of Goa for the quick action taken for the crime, she is blaming him. This clearly indicates the double standard of AAP party. Let her keep in mind, the voters of Goa are not voters of Delhi. The result will show her and her supporters!

Yadav Suvarna, she never told arresting of Tejpal was wrong. However, she is questioning why the Ministers involved in illegal mining are not arrested till date ? May be for you it is a double standard of AAP, but, for the world, it is clearly a double standard of BJP. Jai ho AAP.

..If you are slow to act, then they say there is no justice in country..if you are act swiftly, then they say there is conspiracy..But Panikkar not cheap, he has given free hand to police to deal with this high profile case..It said that, if Police carry out their works efficiently there is no need of lawyers in this country..

Fully agree with the observation of AAP with regard to Parrikar arresting Tejpal. It is a conspiracy of BJP to settle scores with Tejpal pertaining to old incident. This is really a substandard act of Goa CM.Thanq.

The arrest of Tejpal is nothing but a gross violation of human rights to satisfy neo nazi women's groups and feminist media. The so called ' victim ' cleverly made the situation blown out of proportion , and then using anti men laws to frame tehelka chief.

One has to understand Tejpal tenure as chief exposed lots of tehelka scams. Due to some political hatred , its irony, he has been arrested for a sending a ' love letter ' to fellow colleague. And also commotion that a mature man cannot chase a young turk. Gross violation of freedom and rights.
