Bangalore : Chaos at political debate between Nilekani, Ananth

Bangalore, Mar 28 (PTI): Chaos broke out today at a political debate between Congress' nominee for Bangalore South Lok Constituency Nandan Nilekani and BJP's Ananth Kumar after workers of the two parties created a ruckus, forcing organisers to abandon the event midway.

As Kumar began reeling out statistics to attack the Manmohan Singh government, Congress workers grew restive and resorted to sloganeering only to be countered by BJP workers who chanted "Modi, Modi." Congress workers shouted pro-Rahul slogans.

Biotech major Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw was moderating the debate at the event organised by Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC) which she heads.

BPAC is a citizen's collective initiative that aims to build a better Bangalore and enhance the quality of life of citizens.

Both Kumar and Nilekani tried to bring the situation under control but in vain as slogan-shouting from both sides and heated exchanges escalated.

Earlier when Nilekani was addressing, a few members from the audience shouted slogans demanding he speak in Kannada.

Apart from Nilekani and Kumar, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Nina P Nayak and JD-S' Ruth Manorama were also on stage.

Kumar told reporters that he was giving facts and figures about how the economy has crumbled in the last ten years but Congress supporters had no patience to hear.

"They never wanted to discuss the real issues….like price rise, economic crisis, security failures relating Bangladesh and China border, regarding terrorism and Maoist attacks inside the country."

"Congress is not ready for a health democratic debate, they don't want to listen to criticism, they don't want to listen to debate...they are not ready to give answers," he said, accusing Congress of having disrupted democratic discussion.

Nilekani, however, accused Kumar of losing track and deviating from the topic.

'It's extremely disappointing that we have an MP who has no interest in talking about his agenda,' Nilekani said, 'When Ananth Kumar was asked about his agenda for Bengaluru, rather than answering the question he began attacking the central government.'

There is something sinister here. Like the doomed debate in Mangalore, all parties for once joined hands to prevent such debates as all parties or their cronies know that it is an open invitation to expose skeletons in their cupboard. I can guarantee that such debates will never happen because nobody wants it. The outcome of such debates without advisers prompting, can affect the public opinion.

Nobody is against BJP but are very much against their ideology and cunning ways.
Do you think if people were against them, they would have won in Karnataka?
People gave them mandate and BJP lost peoples' faith in them on various counts, mostly to their Hindutva ideology and the result is there for all to see.
If they change and become pro-people of UNITED INDIA the results can be in their favour too.
Otherwise, it will be just try once and discard as far as BJP is concerned, because BJP can never be a peoples' party as long as they hate other religions in India.

Dinesh Poojary is defending Ananth Kumar too much -
He knows very well Ananth Kumar is a Feku and can not answer any questions which he is responsible to answer. Same like Other feku.
He had already arranged his people to disrupt the proceedings whenever he was unable to give a "STRAIGHT" answer.
It was so clear to all Bangaloreans especially the South the true color of Ananth Kumar and BJP's true agenda - to create as much as possible bad blood between voters.
But voters had a good chance to see through his "Create hatred" agenda.
All other nominees were so graceful and showed their commitment during the interaction.

But look at this Anti-Kannadiga stand of Nilekani. In the land of Karnataka he don't speak Kannada. Such Nada-Drohis will be kicked out by people of Bangalore. Is he addressing foreign clients here? A MP candidate should have a basic common sense.

Political debate needs to be focused on who they are (Candidates), what their aim is, and how they are implementing some of the main requirements of the citizens. There is not necessary and it is stupid to tell in debate about government. Mr. Ananth is telling about government fails, why he did not go to the Finance Minister or Prime Minister, as he was MP and suggested his ideas. When a person is not having such courage what else we can expect?
