Mangalore, Mar 28: Kalakul repertory of Mandd Sobhann celebrated the 'World Theatre Day-2014' on Thursday March 27, at Mandd Sobhann, Shaktinagar, here.

Louis Pinto, president of Mandd Sobhann, Prof Vincent Alva, Roy Castelino, president of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, Eric Ozario, Christopher D'Souza, and Arun Raj Rodrigues were present on the dais.

Arun Raj Rodrigues welcomed the guests and extended a floral welcome.

A book of two plays, 'Mr Jesus' and 'Jezu Bhonvarichyo Sthriyo', written by Arun Raj Rodrigues was released by Roy Castelino on the occasion.

After the book release Prof Vincent Alva gave a talk on 'Konkani Natak Vishin Vichar Mandan', wherein he

He said, "I do not have much knowledge about theatre, but I certainly do have knowledge about what is happening on the stage, the sounds, the lightings and the acting. I know all these things from my childhood when I acted in almost 20 plays under the guidance of Udyavara Madhavacharya."

He added, "If you want to become an actor you have to be human first. When we talk about a play, just having a script, actors and dialogues will not make it perfect. To make the play perfect you must put yourself in it and be fully involved. We act from the day we are born till the day we die," he said.

"There are seven types of dramas we do in our lives. We cry as a baby and when we go to school, then we fall in love, then become a soldier, philosopher, old man and again a baby," he said.

He further said, "I feel really sad that Konkani is dying, that it has been put aside. It should not happen. More audience are required as they are the ones who are going to promote Konkani."

Roy Castelino said that he would do his best to promote Konkani language and get funds from the government to support Konkani.

Christopher D'Souza proposed the vote of thanks and Daru Vamanjoor compered the ceremony.

Vitori Karkal, litterateur Edi Netto, Gladys Rego and others were present during the function.
