Bangalore, Mar 24: With barely two days to go for the close of filing nominations for the 28 lok sabha constituencies from Karnataka going to polls on April 17, as many as 73 candidates filed 104 sets of nomination papers on the fifth day on Monday.
As many as 190 candidatesx have filed 280 sets of nomination papers in all the 28 lok sabha constituencies in the State so far.
March 26, Wednesday is the last day for filing nomination papers.
The following are the prominent persons, who filed their papers on Monday: Machendra Kadapur BSP – Chikkodi; Ramesh Vishwanath Katti and Umesh Vishwanath Katti BJP – Chikkodi; Yamanur Kamble BSP – Bagalkot; Prakash Rathod Cong – Bijapur; Revu Nayak Belamagi BJP – Gulbarga; D K Suresh – Cong – Bangalore Rural; C S Puttaraju JDS – Mandya; G S Baqsavaraju BJP – Tumkur; and K Yadava Shetty CPM – Dakshina Kannada.
Rs 1.77 cr cash, liquor worth Rs 1.1 cr, Rs 28.68 lac worth goods seized so far
State Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha, who briefed reporters on the details, said Excise Enforce Unit has seized Rs 1.1 crore worth of of 14,306 litres illegal liquor. As many as 645 persons have been arrested in this connection.
While Rs 28 lakh cash was seized in Dharward and FIRs registered against 2 persons, Rs 2.3 lakh cas was seized in Hubli rural police limits. In Ramanagar, another Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1.03 lakh had been seized in Gokak.
The CEO said the total cash seized so far was 1.77 crore.
In addition, Rs 11 lakh worth of 4444 sarees were seized while being transported in a lorry at Sherwada in Hubli taluk, 780 sarees worth Rs 4.32 lakh were seized in Bangalore rural and 480 bags of rice and 300 vessels were seized in Yamakanamaradi of Belgaum district, he said pointing out that the total worth of goods seized so far was Rs 28.68 lakh.
15.7 lac new voters included
Of the total applications received for inclusion of their names in the electoral names, names of as many as 15.7 lakh persons had been included and another 40,000 applications were pending consideration.
The entire exercise will be completed in another two days, the CEO said and mentioned the Electoral Authorities will distribute voters’ identity cards 5 days before the polling.
