Bangalore, Mar 23: The trend of jumping from one party to another or celebrities joining political party continues as general parliamentary elections fast approach.
The number of new comers and migrants are said to be much higher in BJP as compared to other parties in the country. However in Karnataka the trend is going in the reverse direction with Congress gaining more as compared to BJP or JD(S).
On Saturday March 22, it was Sandalwood - Congress day. Bhavya, once a heartthrob among Kannada cine lovers, joined Congress along with BJP leader, MLC and chairman of Kannada Development Board 'Mukyamantri' Chandru and actor-director Madan Patel who migrated from KJP.
Independent MLC Raghu Achar, Haveri district JD(S) unit president Gaaji Gowda and Singapore Kannada Fedarations' president Srinivas D M Sali also joined Congress in the presence of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dr Parameshwar and other ministers and leaders.
The leaders who joined said that Congress is a pro-poor party, and has always treated everyone with equality. "At the moment no other party in the country is concerned about the poor as much as Congress is. Hence we are joining Congress unconditionally," they said.
State social welfare minister Anjaneya said, "We are very careful in choosing new comers and other party members for Congress. We screen everyone, and those with good background only are inducted into our party, unlike in some other parties that are welcoming anyone who walks in."
