Mangalore, Mar 22: A woman from Chikmagalur was admitted in a private hospital in the city on Saturday March 22 after she was shot by a man over a property dispute in Chikmagalur.
Pushpa Prasanna, owner of coffee estate in Chikmagalur, was allegedly shot by a person identified as K P Manjunath.
It is said that Manjunath along with Satish and their supporters barged into Pushpa's coffee estate at Mudigere and shot her with a rifle. The supporters thrashed three of her relatives Prakash, Naveen and Jagadish with wooden sticks. Pushpa sustained a bullet injury on her knee.
Soon after the incident, Pushpa and her three relatives were rushed to a hospital in Mangalore. Pushpa was shifted to the hospital's ICU.
It is learnt that Pushpa Prasanna and K P Manjunath were involved in a dispute over the 1.5 acre coffee estate at Mudigere. The land belongs to Pushpa but was earlier owned by Manjunath. The matter went to the police for a settlement. The police as well as the local leaders ruled in favour of Pushpa and she acquired the land and began managing the estate.
It may be noted that when election code of conduct came into force a few days ago, all people possessing licensed firearms were directed to surrender them in the police stations. However, Manjunath came to Pushpa's estate and shot her with his rifle, clearly indicating that he did not surrender it.
Aldur police have registered a case.
