A splendid ceremony marked the 12th annual day celebrations of St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor here on Thursday March 20.

Students who achieved laurels in various spheres like sports, culture and academics were honoured by MLA J R Lobo who was the chief guest.

Addressing the gathering, Lobo advised the students to work hard and pursue their goals with courage and sincerity. "Success comes with hard work, determination, and courage," he added.

Giving instances of great achievers, he narrated the story of Naga Naresh Karutura of Andhra Pradesh who, despite having lost both his legs, passed out of IIT Madras and achieved success in IT field. "Differently-abled individuals like Naga Naresh have achieved success through their dedication and hard work. Hence, success always follows hard work."

He also said, "We should live in the present while dreaming of the future. Infinite power is hidden in everyone. The youth should use this power to do good and achieve great heights."

Anand James D'Silva, country HR manager of Hewlett-Packard, in his address as the guest of honour said, "College education is the best time of one’s life. Choose your future well; you will become what you choose. Develop network with people which is important in this age. Great people are great speakers."

Dr Aloysius Paul D’ Souza, Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, felicitated Lobo on this occasion.

Anand James D'Silva honoured academic achievers.

Dr Aloysius Paul Souza blessed the occasion. Fr Joseph Lobo, director, St Joseph Engineering College, welcomed. Joseph Gonsalves, principal, read the annual report.

Dr Jyothi, convener, assistant directors Fr Ajith Menezes and Fr Rohith D'Costa, and vice-principal Dr Rio D'Souza were present.
