Udupi, Mar 20: The International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA) Udupi branch on Thursday March 20 handed over a memorandum to superintendent of police Dr Boralingaiah and also met DC Dr Muddumohan in connection to the issue of morphed picture of Mother Mary and Infant Jesus that went viral on Facebook.
The delegation was led by Prashant Jatanna, president of IFKCA, Udupi.
The delegation said that the photo, which was morphed to depict AICC president Sonia Gandhi as Mother Mary and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal as Infant Jesus, was an insult to Christianity and had hurt the sentiments of the Christian community.
"The photo was shared by many people. The picture was in bad taste," they said.
Jatanna condemned the picture and requested the SP to take quick action against the person who had edited and uploaded the picture. He also urged him to monitor the content on social media more strictly and punish the guilty as per laws. Jatanna also expressed concern that during election time such incidents may disrupt communal harmony.
"If such an incident occurs again, it will lead to a massive protest from the Christian community. It is against the Constitution to insult another religion," he added.
Udupi diocese Estate officer Fr Henry Sequeira, former IFKCA president Louis Lobo, David D'Souza, Melwyn D'Souza, Melwyn Aranha, Jitendra Furtado, Sunil Cabral, Steevan Colaco, Wilson Rodrigues, Bonifas D'Souza and others were present.
