Bhatkal, Mar 20: Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Excise department officials seized 348 bottles of Indian-made liquor from Netravati Express at Bhatkal.
However, the person who was transporting the liquor managed to escape. The police seized 348 bottles of liquor, each of 180ml*144 and 750ml*204 capacity, altogether valued around RS 40,000.
The liquor was loaded at Margoa railway station in Goa, where it was manufactured and it is believed that it was being transported to Murdeshwer. It is said that the railway police noticed the bags containing liquor under the seat of the train compartment; no one was guarding the bottles.
Under the Guidence of the assistant commissioner RPF Sathishan V V, excise inspector Anand J D, railway sub-inspector Santosh Gaonkar, Praveen K, Maruthi Madar, Ajesh V K Kallakar Tilkesh, and other railway officials were part of the operation.
The liquor bottles were later handed over to the Bhatkal excise department. Further investigations are on.
