Forcible eviction in Shirthady: Locals demand tahsildar's transfer

Mangalore, Mar 20: A day after Malathi Poojarthi of Moodukonaje, Shirthady near Moodbidri was forcibly evicted and her house razed down by the police and revenue officials, the locals along with BJP leaders gathered in front of the tahsildar's office on Wednesday March 19 and demanded his transfer.
Sharada Poojarthi of Moodukonaje complained to assistant election commissioner Dr Ashok urging him to take action against the tahsildar who evicted Malathi Poojarthi who had constructed her house on government land, obtained a door number and had even paid tax. Dr Ashok accepted the complaint and said that he would bring it to attention of the local election officials.
BJP block president K P Sucharitha said that there are many illegal multi-storied buildings in Moodbidri town and urged the authorties to take action against them.
BJP district vice-president Umanath Kotian said that the tahsildar had shown high-handedness by demolishing the house of the poor. "Let him take action against the several illegal buildings against which complaints are pending," he said.
Zilla panchayat member Ishwar Kateel said that thousands of applications for house sites are decaying and at the same time houses of the poor are being demolished.
"Moodbidri tahsildar is acting like a Congress puppet and an impartial election is not possible by him. He should be transferred till elections get over. If not, we will not participate in any meetings in which he is present and we will not cooperate with him," warned the BJP leaders.
Zilla panchayat member Sunitha Sucharitha Shetty spoke. BJP district vice-president Kasturi Panja and leaders Bhuvanabhiram Udupa, Sudarshana, M Bhaskar Acharya, Sukesh Shetty and others were present.
The allegations levelled by the protesters were:
"The member of municipal council, Anil Lobo has constructed a building of five storeys with permission for only two storeys. How did he get door numbers?
"Former taluk panchayat president Savitha T N has occupied government land and built a house on it. Why no action against her despite complaints?
"Kallamandkur gram panchayat president Joachim Correa has constructed an illegal quarry. Why is the government silent?
"Why no action against people who have occupied forty acres of government land in Yekkar village?"
