Mangalore: Poojary in trouble over remarks on Modi - EC files suo motu case

Mangalore, Mar 18: The Election Commission on Monday March 16 has filed a complaint against former union minister and DK Congress candidate Janardhan Poojary for making derogatory comments against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in his speech during the Congress padayatra at Moodbidri.

After the padayatra on Sunday March 16, the district Congress members led by Poojary convened a public meeting at Rajeev Gandhi commercial complex. In the meeting, while addressing the gathering, Poojary commented on the marital status of Modi. "Can Modi handle the country, when he failed to manage his marital life?" he had said.
This statement was recorded by the sector officials on video and came under the scanner of assistant election officer Dr Ashok who considered it a breach of model code of conduct. Taking suo motu action, Dr Ashok filed a case against Poojary.
Similarly, a case poll code violation was lodged against Navi Mumbai corporator Santosh Shetty. During the same meeting, Shetty reportedly demanded RSS to divulge the name of Modi’s father. "Everyone in the country knows the lineage of Nehru family, but not Modi’s," he had said.
