Mangalore, Mar 17: The two-day technical fest ‘Tiara-2014' organized by St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor, was inaugurated in the College premises at Vamanjoor here on Monday March 17

The inaugural ceremony began with a prayer song led by the College choir group.

Dr Joseph Gonsalves, principal of SJEC, welcomed the guests and a floral welcome was given to the chief guest Pramod N Fernandes, group-CHRO of Manipal Group.

Pramod Fernandes inaugurated 'Tiara-2014' while Dr Rio D'Souza, vice-principal of SJEC introduced the chief guest to the gathering.

Pramod Fernandes in his inaugural speech said that invention is different from innovation, but people get confused with the two terms.

He said, "Invention is nothing but inventing something new, whereas innovation is using the current technology and products to come up with an improved product to meet new requirements. The future is meant for inventing something new. At this time you have to think innovatively and develop your capabilities. Every person should take part in this fest. I am sure Tiara-2014 will be a grand success."

He also gave examples of Apple iPhone and WhatsApp (social networking mobile application) and said, "Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone when there was no communication. Using the same technology, its improvised version is now the cellphone. A few years back people relied on
SMS and e-mails to send messages. But three years back a group of 55 members put all this techonolgy in single application called WhatsApp which is now used by almost everyone." He further said that invention and innovation of such products have created a huge impact in the entire world.

Fr Joseph Lobo, director of SJEC in his presidential speech thanked Pramod N Fernandes for being part of the programme and thanked the students for the hard work they put in.

"We see all the young energetic students who are desiring to take part in the events. Every student should activly take part in the various events and make 'Tiara-2014' a success," he said.

Shreeranga Bhat, convener proposed the vote of thanks, while Fariyal compered the ceremony. A  gift was presented to Pramod N Fernandes as a token of gratitude.

Innovative ideas are ignored and talents are hidden due to the enforcement of the huge burden of standard portion (syllabus) on our technical students.
Why all vehicles are produced in rectangular shaped boxes and moved in tortoise style in all situations (ups, downs and levels)?
Why we cannot include the rabbit style to save 75% of fuel, eliminate pollutions (air and sound) and reduce costs (manufacturing, running and maintenance) and to multiply capacities of vehicles to provide adequate and comfortable transport facilities to satisfy the rapidly growing transport demand of commuters and goods?
While bulls can pull the heavy carts on wheels at ease, why we make to carry and move the weight of bullock carts on wheels, with expensive fuel to get the reward of pollutions and heavy costs?
Why all vehicles are started from a stand still position and pulled till the destination with the expensive fuel force, by using a powerful vehicle engine?
Why we support, concentrate and contribute to make the smart phone smarter and why there is no recognition and encouragement to revolutionize the surface transport section which is sucking the blood of economy with severe problems (CAD, oil subsidies, low FEX reserves, inflation, unemployment, poverty, starvation, lack of funds for education, health, infrastructure and development, etc.?
Why we ignore the opportunity for a revolutionary change to give incredible solutions with amazing benefits?
As an idea can change our life, a concept change can make a world of difference.

Mobile technology is on sky high progress with a rapid revolution in the Telecom sector
The automobile industry is suffering severely on ground by consuming expensive fuel

While we have reached any distance with just clicks and mere touch screens at cheap rate or free of cost through telecom, in the surface transport sector, we spend lavishly for fuel and costs to get reward of health hazardous pollutions and suffer inadequate transport facilities.

In fact, we have been carrying and moving the bullock carts on wheels since a couple of centuries. If we accept and realize a silly error, we can rectify it by implementing a simple concept change, to have a wonderful revolution in the automobile sector to make a world of difference.

The opportunity is use the millions of tons of dead weight of commuters and goods on wheels as a pushing force (instead of carrying and moving it like infants) and the option is to save a huge volume of fuel, eliminate pollutions, drastic reduction in costs and increase in capacities.
