Bangalore: AAP dinner collects Rs 50 lac, Kejriwal quizzed about attack on media

Bangalore, Mar 16 (PTI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal faced questions about his controversial remarks on the media at the party's Rs 20,000-per person fund-raising dinner here that yielded Rs 50 lac.

The dinner, organised last night during Kejriwal's two-day visit to the city to drum-up support for the nascent party, was attended by around 200 people, AAP leaders said.

File photo of Kejriwal's Bangalore road show

The event was an initiative by a group called "Well wishers of AAP" co-ordinated by former Infosys board member and party candidate from Bangalore Central constituency V Balakrishnan with an intention to raise fund for the party in a "transparent manner".

"Around 200 people attended the dinner. We have gathered about Rs 50 lac," C N Radhakrishnan, a member of "Well wishers of AAP" told PTI.

"A few people had pledged support to us but could not attend the event... they will be sending in their contributions soon," he added.

In what was said to be an interactive session, Kejriwal's recent salvo against the media was a hot topic among the attendees, who quizzed the former Delhi Chief Minister over the issue.

Naina P Nayak, AAP's candidate from Bangalore South who was part of the dinner event, said, "It was a great event, it was completely interactive session, people asked him all kind of questions and pointed out some errors too."

"People asked him about his recent comments about media. Kejriwal sought to clarify his comment and tried to make them understand what he really meant...," Nayak said without elaborating.

"His resignation as Delhi Chief Minister was another hot topic. A few had some reservations on the way he resigned," she added.

As he launched his roadshow here yesterday, Kejriwal, unfazed by the criticism of his attack on media, fired yet another salvo, questioning whether the media had the courage to show the "true story" about Narendra Modi's Gujarat.

He accused the media of not bringing out the "truth" about the Gujarat Chief Minister before the people.

Kejriwal had sparked a controversy with his remarks that the whole media is "sold out" and media people would be sent to jail after an inquiry into the issue if AAP comes to power.

Another major highlight for the audience was dance performance by a young group with broomstick (AAP’s election symbol), conveying the message that their motto was to wipe out corruption from the country.

The AAP leader came on a two-day visit to Bangalore and Chikkaballapur yesterday. The party seeks to vie with the ruling Congress, BJP and JDS for its own space in a state, where it is mainly a two-way race in the Lok Sabha polls between the first two players.

In the 2009 polls, BJP walked away with 19 seats and Congress secured six seats, while former Prime Minister H D Devegowda's JDS finished third with three seats.

AAP is contesting all 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka.

Kejriwal held a roadshow in Bangalore yesterday, covering all the three Lok Sabha constituencies of Bangalore South, Bangalore Central and Bangalore North, all held by BJP.

Karnataka is among the top four states in terms of offering donation to AAP.

According to AAP data, Rs 76.68 lac was donated from Karnataka, making it the fourth highest after Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

AAP though the name suggests otherwise, is truly a party for all the people. It is fighting to eradicate the corruption from our country.

The money collected from poor people to attend Modi’s rallies is a sham. The actual hundreds of crores are coming in sacs from the Amba / Ada /nis. Those who lament that aam aadmi cannot contribute to AAP, please note I have seen on its website its getting donations more than few lakhs from individuals from India and at the same time some are donating Re 1 (Rupee one and paise nil only) from USA ! It is the spirit, not just the money.

It’s a movement across the globe. Never before there was an option for us other than the 2 sides of a coin. Now somebody has found the 3rd side of the coin.

That is the circumference which keeps both these parties at distance !

They are best to do comedy programs in streets. People of India will remove their TOPY and put new topy. So wait for just 60 days.

This CRAZYWAALA takes 20000 Rs from each who attends his dinner party. So common man can't meet him.

In BJP, we take 10 Rs entry fees for Namo's rally. Even a common man (aam admi, jana samanya) contributed for BJP's fund. Whereas only rich people can contribute to AAP. Now tell me which is real AAM ADMI party?

Keju bhai is right, FEKU is misusing media & spreading fake figures (Feku himself doesn't know abcd of statistics) on the development of Gujrat on social networking sites.

Actually development is not done by FEKU, it's by his appointed American agency, which is handling his marketing & popularizing him.

    Good.

This is the right and transparent way of collecting money, that too from the people who can afford. These are the people who if make up their mind to support the honest politics can make a big difference in your drive to collect the much needed 100 crore Rupees or so to contest all the LS seats in the country. People should understand that this money goes only for the expenses to fight elections for the sake of AAM AADMI (common people) so that India can have right people entering the parliament and not rapists, murderers, criminals, goondas etc. This party is for the Aam Aadmi but the members, the supporters need not be Aam Aadmis. I really appreciate the statistics given by N. M. , Mangalore here. Superb boss.

After all, you are not collecting Rs.10 that Modi is collected from every poor person attending his rallies. He must have minted money in this way apart from hundreds of crores being sent in sacs by the Amba / Ada /nis.

The fact that it is sell-out dinner shows people are serious about the change. I am keeping a track on the AAP website for the online collection. I am surprised to see every day the money is pouring in from left, right and centre. It is really something amazing. No other party got guts to show their accounts this way. People need clean politics, not just either Cong, if not BJP, if not no option scene. 2014 is sure to make a difference.

I am not a Kejriwal supporter nor AAP.
Yet to speak the truth there is only a truth. But to say lies, we have to hurl several lies.

In the case of corruption, he is alright. But cannot eradicate corruption, yet can regulate. It is a truth.
Electricity charges should not be so cheap.
Both the prices of gas and electricity should match.
Otherwise, citizens are also clever to utilize as much cheaper energy.
When congress gave support and didn't withdraw the support how come he couldn't sustain Delhi and ran away, putting peoples trust upon AAP and now their hope is in Astray

Indian Lawyers, forest department, revenue department, Police and customs officers are in corruption and taking haptha in every nook and corners of India except a few only can be counted in fingers and for them Kejriwal is a Night-mare.

What is the solution to the real estate’s who are making only brokerage job and fooling the buyers.

What is the solution to flat buyers paying black and white?

What is the solution to developmental works in our home towns? We don't need a wastage box in and around of the house, we don't need polluting factories, we don't give our land to factories or energy producing sectors. The energy producers are not giving jobs to the land losers. What is the solution to Agents free driving licenses.
What is the solution to Railway T.C.'s making money from the ticket less passengers.
What is the solution to make free of railways ticket less passengers. Most north Indians travel ticketless.

Now to Modi supporters don’t say Modi is the solution.
Modi has no resolution. His solution is only fake developments, cheap farmers' land to industrialists and to fill the pocket of RSS from the citizen’s hard toil, Murders and encounters.

If anyone interested, you need to pay 20 Lakhs to 2.5 crores, according to your seating arrangements. To share table with FEKU 2.5 crores!!!

This time BJP can not collect money in the name of the temple. So, they collected millions from people (mainly poor) who came to hear FEKUs speech, they are doing hafta vasooli from topmost corporates of the nation (Ambani, Adani etc), they included all rich (corrupt) politicians back to party & now dinner with Rich only!
