Puttur, Mar 15: The 29th Vijaya Vikrama Kambala was held near Kuteludaddu, Uppinangady here on Saturday March 15.
Addressing the gathering, taluk tahsildar Kullegowda said, "Tulunadu is a land of ancient culture and it has maintained its natural beauty. The Kambala is a competition in which people win even while losing he said. While serials in the TVs get transmitted based on stories, Kambala is a competition of nature, he said.
Dhanya Kumar, member of managing committee of Sri Sahasralingeshwara temple, said that the sport is such that the farmers retain the sport and make it grow along with their occupation. The farmer, who looks after buffaloes, takes a lot of care to tame the animals without expecting anything in return. It is a quality of farmers to act as per the feelings of the land, he said.
Vasanth B, rural development official of Dharmastala and Chief Guest of the programme said that Kambala is not restricted to sport. It shines in rural level and in TV programmes. He called upon people to support the farmers and help retain the culture.
Kambala committee honorary president Ashok Kumar said that an association can be formed only when ten hands join. The Kambala committee has completed 29 years in those lines, he said.
Businessman U Rama, Sri Sahasralingeshwara temple management committee member Vishwanatha Shetty, Kambala committee office bearers Seetharama Shetty, Ramachandra Maniyani, Keshava Bhandary, Harischandra Acharya, Kushalappa Gowda, Pravin Kumar, Sankappa Shetty, Jayantha, Zilla panchayat member Keshava Gowda and Panchayat president Nalinakshi Shetty were present.
Kambala committee president Nandavara Umesh Shetty welcomed. Secretary Chandrashekar Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
