Kundapur, Mar 14: Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Shimoga with BJP ticket, inaugurated the party's election campaign office at Shiroor on Friday March 14. He also launched his own election campaign on the occasion.
Prior to the inauguration he visited the Shree Raghavendra Math to seek divine blessings.
Speaking to the media after his visit to the Math, he said, "We are sure to win elections with the blessings of the deity of Shree Raghavendra Math and the people. The survey done by television channels has shown that BJP will get more than 20 seats and we too are confident of getting that many seats in the state."
He further said, "Narendra Modi is an able leader for the country. The current central government has failed to effectively run the administration. There is no apt leader in the Congress and hence people will render their support to Narendra Modi.”
"The leaders at the center have released the list of candidates except for two or three constituencies and campaigning is in progress all over. The list in the remaining constituencies will be released in a day or two. We announced our first list of candidates before other parties," he said.
“The development under the state government during the last nine months is nil, BJP had initiated several developmental works during its regime,” Yeddyurappa said.
"The failure of administration, scarcity of leadership, and lack of development are evident under the present government. The people friendly projects by the previous BJP government will win the hearts of the electorate. We are armoured with the goodwill of the people and people will be electing us with majority," he said.
When reporters questioned whether BJP would be merged with BSR Congress, Yeddyurappa said that Sriramulu has joined the party and will be competing from Bellary. "At present only Sriramulu has been called into the party and we have not thought of the party merger," he said.
When reporters asked if Dhananjay Kumar is joining JD(S) as reported in the media, he said that attempts to bring him back into the BJP are on.
To a question whether Geetha Rajkumar's JD(S) candidature from Shimoga is a drawback, he said that he is not willing to speak about the candidates of other parties. "I will not speak of other party candidates and will not criticize them as it is useless to do so," he said.
"Shobha Karandlaje is well-known in Udupi-Chikmagalur region as she has done good work and people will elect her," he said.
Byndoor BJP president B M Sukumar Shetty, Byndoor former MLA K Laxminarayana, Udupi district former BJP president Udayakumar Shetty, Sadashiva Paduvari, Sadananda Byndoor, taluk panchayat member Babu Hegde and others were present.
Yeddyurappa flagged off a bike rally during which there was a huge participation of party workers.
After the rally, the Lok Sabha election campaign office was inaugurated .
