Udupi, Mar 13: The policemen, who have investigated a dowry harassment case filed against city-based medical practitioner, Dr Gurukant Rao, have found that the charges levelled against him are false. This case was registered against Dr Rao and his parents at Davangere women’s’ police station.
Dr Gurukant Rao from Parkala here had married Dr Ranjeeta from Davangere in 2010. Dr Ranjeeta, in a private complaint filed in Davangere court on October 28, 2012, had said that her husband and in-laws had been pressurizing her to bring more dowry, duly threatening of killing her if she complained to the police. She also said that her husband and his parents had visited her parental home in Davangere for murdering her.
The police circle inspector of Davangere central has filed a B report in the court of the judicial magistrate (first class) in Davangere, recommending dropping of the case.
Dr N R Rao, father of Dr Gurukant Rao, informed that a defamation suit has now registered in JMFC court Mangalore against Dr Ranjeeta, and her parents, Ratnakar Shenoy and Jamunarani Shenoy, as well as some persons who had adduced false evidence in the court, for the mental torture the family members had suffered because of the false complaint.
