Bantwal: Police arrest two people for chain snatching

Bantwal, Mar 13: Bantwal rural police have taken into custody two people accused of snatching a gold chain from the neck of a lonely woman in Sornadu Bhandasale in Bantwal taluk last year.

The arrested are Goodina resident by origin and now a resident of Mangalore, Mohammed Rafik (25) and Uppala Paivalike resident Sahil (22).

When the duo were arrested by Mangalore Pandeshwar police a few days ago and subjected to questioning, they had confessed that they had snatched a gold chain weighing four sovereigns from the neck of a woman named Lilly Barboza, who had been walking beside the road at Bhandasale in Sornadu, Bantwal  rural limits on July 26, 2013, and fled leaving their bike there.

The duo was questioned by Bantwal rural police and the gold stolen by them was recovered. The police have said that the duo is suspected to be involved in more than 20 cases of robbery in various police station limits including Bantwal rural police station. The two accused were produced before the court.
