Mangalore Mar 11: TV Journalists Association Dakshina Kannada, held a protest against State minister D K Shivakumar for allegedly assaulting and filing a fake complaint of bribing against two working journalists of state TV Channel.

Addressing the gathering, TV Journalist Tharanath Kapikad said "Assault and arrest of two innocent journalists is inhuman. It is a foul play scheduled to trap the journalists who had planned a sting operation. The attitude of the state minister is a mockery of democracy. Sting operation is also a part of transforming Journalism. Journalists are working to wipe out corruption", he said.

"Police are not accepting complaints from the journalists due to pressure from the minister. The journalists were harassed and assaulted by the followers of minister. Present day journalists are facing several problems. There is no one to hear the plight of journalists who work for the betterment of society. Chief Minister should look into this matter very seriously. We will be holding large scale agitation if proper action is not taken", he said.

Journalist Pushparaj Shetty said "We condemn physical attack on journalists. It is still unclear why the journalists were arrested and sent to jail. Journalism is called as the fourth pillar of democracy but this attitude of the minister and his followers has insulted the system. Executive functions are misused. We condemn the manhandling of journalists" he said.

Several electronic media journalists were present.

A memorandum in this regard was submitted to the governor through the Deputy Commissioner.

Competition in the news channel industry is so much so that they have to give many breaking news in a day to sustain their TRP's. No wonder TV channels and their so called anchors will do such a shameful exercise to capture well known politicians . I think all parties should be unite against these TV channels acting like moral police. As a citizen of this country we need responsible journalist. These people intentionally did this exercise since they have a long pending grudge on DKS. I am not supporting DKS but i am opposing way TV9 tried to act as moral police .

These journalists get away with every wrong they do by just doing these types of protests. few things in Indian journalism must be changed/restricted.
    1. check all the journalist for their qualification. they must be at-least having a bachelors degree.
    2. all the paid news, blackmailing must be stopped and found the news agency's license must be revoked.
    3. Journalism must be for creating awareness, taking up real issues and not for cheap, crap news.
    4. there must be accountability when news is published without proper proofs, especially when it concerns the person's dignity, worth.
how many of our journalists just cause they can click, record something they behave like super beings. people simply get a press card through influence and then they think they can blackmail, publish anything.
let the journalism be for upholding dignity, creating awareness, change the situation and not for blackmailing, to protest. Importantly, all those who do not have qualification must be shown the door

Media is also corrupt you people are initiate sting operation- and then demand for money to not disclose the matter to the public. and if you fail to get any a penny from the defaulter you convert the same case into sting operation for the betterment of the society. First media persons should think on the act that, if someone is offering a some lot money to any one so easily without any demands, why the receiver decline it? Does anyone could decline when you offer some money for doing a job? this is not bribe. On the other hand if the concerned authority or person is demanding money for getting certain things done which come withing his jurisdiction - then this can be treated as bribe.

Hence we can not term every Journo's are Saints. Same time we should not tag them as devils. Daal mein kutch kaala hai!! But doubt persists. Election time guys, Political parties use or misuse these Journo's for their electoral benefit.

When the media people were caught at the time of offering bribe to the minister what else the police has to do other than arresting.Media to do media work and for controlling corruption there are other departments.Sting operation to be made illegal and sting operation on pick and choose basis is also highly objectionable.Hope the judiciary takes a right decision in the matter.Thanq.

Why the media are taking the role of investigating agency's duties, If they have any complaint or any information about the corruption they should reach police/lokayuktha/or court for investigation, or they can do even sting operation with the help of lokayuktha. Does anyone think that all the media people are free of corruption.Even some press people used to blackmail the corrupt official/ politicians to make money.Anyway now the case in court let court give the verdict.

Shri Naveen Soorinje and Sitaram of karavali Ale both were illegally detained jailed by the BJP govt..Apart from that Naveen Soorinje was ambushed by DK police as if he was a hardcore terrorist!Where were such kind of agitation and billboards of visual media working DK

If the police refuse to take complaints for file/FIR journalist can approach Guv or the court?Yes Media is a fourth estate of democracy and offering bribe to minister also criminal offence. If the bribe offered by a third party and TV journalist only accompanied for the purpose sting operation, then there are reasons take Minister for a task. These two journalists should be taken in to custody to interrogate in wider perspective as Election for LS already announced.
By the by Jeevan and Dinesh never uttered a word in favor of Sitaram of K.Ale and Naveen Soorinje!!!!

The Journalists tried the old trick of Tehelka which trapped Bangaru Laxman who was party president of BJP.
But they forgot one thing offering Bribe also is an offense punishable under the law, just like bribe taking.
If they had succeeded in trapping the corruption, red handed which normally takes place in power deals instead of creating a Fake Deal, then their act was appreciable.
But here the "Hunters became Hunted", & they learned a bitter lesson not to create a corruption story, but to capture the real corrupt.
Now no use lamenting failed or bungled Entrapment, let the guilty get punished. Journalism has its own limits which they dare not transgress in future.

This ROWDY government should be dismissed. How come our Ghanatevetta RAJYAPALA is silent? Is he Samvidahana Rakshaka or Samvidhana Bhakshaka?

Why can't CM siddu intervene? If an ordinary person of state can't register a complaint in police station, why do we need a useless Home Minister and irresponsible chief minister?

This is the effect of inducting two notorious rowdies into cabinet on the 1st of January 2014.
