Bangalore: TV reporters held for offering bribe to minister DK Shivakumar

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SP)

Bangalore, Mar 11: Reporters of an English television news channel, Shreyas (28) and Shwetha (24), were arrested by the personnel of Sadashivanagar police station here on Monday March 10, on the allegation of offering bribe to energy minister, D K Shivakumar.

A camera being used for sting operations, cash amounting to six lac rupees, and identity cards issued by News9 channel, were recovered from their possession. It is said that the accused, who introduced themselves as representatives of Energo Power Company, had tried to bribe the minister.

Although the reporters in disguise had visited the home of Shivakumar in Sadashivanagar regularly since the last three to four days, they had not been able to meet the minister. On Monday evening, they met the minister, and requested to sanction projects sought by Energo Power Company, duly offering bribe to the minister, the policemen said.

Plains clothed police personnel on the site took both into custody. It is learnt that case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against these two reporters, and also Mahendra Mishra, who heads the news channel.

Addressing a press conference later at his residence, Shivakumar said that people claiming to be employees of Energo Power Company had earlier met him with request to approve a file. “I contacted the officials of the department, and learnt that no such file is pending with the department. I grew suspicious about the motive of these people,” he explained.  The two reporters, who came to meet me at 9 am, again came to my house at 3.30 pm. As I had suspicion about their activities, I had requested policemen to be present in disguise. When they tried to offer money, I asked the policemen to take them into custody. Before that, I had received a threat call from the reporter of this channel,” he claimed.

Media is the most corrupt and biased institution without accountability and ethics. Many Journalists think no end of themselves and need to be put in place, they have become more a nuisance than news. However, these so called jurnos and persons behind this crude sting have to be taken to task, so it becomes a lesson for others in the future to bring news and not resort to cheap publicity stunts. Do a sting when someone is doing wrong and not create a wrong and fool public in the name of sting. For a change this sting has stung the jurnos and the TV channel. It does not matter who, how, when, where DKS is or his past nor defending. In this case the channel has got it all wrong and very immature way to go about.

For him Rs.6 lakhs is not a tempting amount. He never touches anything below Rs.One Crore. After all he is also have some dignity you see.
News-9 & TV-9 ( both same group channels) should have first ascertained such an important point. So, DKshi is suing both these TV channels, of course not for offering bribes, but for insulting him by offering very small amount of bribe.

1)If accepting bribe is a crime, then offering bribe is a bigger crime, so book the TV channel first.
    2) Yes, DKS may be corrupt and we dont trust him, but that doesn't mean we trust TV9 either. TV9/News 9 has also lost the credibility in peoples eyes.
Media should learn one important lesson, please, we dont trust everything you show or say, we have common sense.

This is another way of moral policing. It is not the duty of media to detect bribe because the government has the designated department to deal with it.Sting operations need to be derecognised and people involved in this must be put behind the bars.In this case the Minister can think of going for defamation and also try to doubt the integrity of the said media.Thanq.

But look at the stupid management of channel...journalists aged 28 & 24 years...abhi 'BACHHE' hai...Anybody will doubt such a immature 'bachhe' log came to do some 'DEAL' or 'BUISNESS'! When BJP govt, Yeddi was a CM he was very friendly (even now he a very close to yeddi) as he was dealing so many land de-notifications! Chor ko hi chor ka movements pata rehta hai...so its just a matter of One chor (TV 9) tried to act smart whiel the other came up 'seena chor'! Both TV9 & DKshi are utter corrupt..., but they knows how to survive just like HDK & Co...where as BJP goons are stupids! By this he will not become an ambassador of MOLRALS! For example in schools & convents they used to give moral classes...never lie...smoking is bad...etc, did anyone smoking?! No, instead became chain smokers! lol

    This is called 'Reverse Sting'!
With operations of these sorts being common nowadays the reporters should have been forewarned! A 'clumsy sting' operation at the end of it!
Everybody by now knows the fate of
'Father of all Stings', Tejpal, by now- don't they?
