Mangalore, Mar 11: On Monday March 10, Mulky town panchayat got new president and vice president, in the form of Meenakshi Bangera and Vasanti Bhandary respectively.

Only two nominations, both from BJP, had been filed for these posts. As BJP enjoys absolute majority in the town panchayat, and also has candidates conforming to eligibility criteria, other parties chose not to enter the contest. Meenakshi Bangera belongs to scheduled caste and the post of the president was earmarked for woman candidate from scheduled caste category. Meenakshi is a first time member of the town panchayat. The post of the vice president was reserved for woman candidate from general category, and it went to Vasanti Bhandary, who has been elected twice to this town panchayat.
