Mangalore: Malaika Multi-brand Store to open showroom at Thokkottu

Mangalore, Mar 10: The Mumbai-based Malaika Multi-brand Retail Store, a sister concern of Malaika Group which has been in business for over three decades in Mumbai will be opening its showroom at Thokkottu here on Sunday March 16 at 11 am.
Malaika Multi-brand Retail Store opened its first showroom in Hampankatta and later at BC Road in Bantwal. The Thokkottu showroom willl be its second in Mangalore taluk. Besides the showroom, Malaika Silk Saris Emporium, readymade garments outlet and office of Malaika Multi-State Credit Society will also be opened on the occasion.
Minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar will inaugurate the new showroom at REB Commercial Complex, opposite Thokkottu bus stand, under the limits of Ullal town panchayat.
Vicar var of St Mathias-Mangalore south varado and parish priest of Blessed Joseph Vaz Church, Mudipu, Fr Gregory D’Souza will bless the new premises. Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel will be the chief guest of the occasion. Mangalore south constituency MLA J R Lobo will inaugurate Malaika Silk Saris Emporium.
Permannur St Sebastian parish priest Fr Dr John Baptist Saldanha will grace the occasion. Ullal town councilor Girija M will inaugurate Malaika Credit Society. Ullal Juma Masjid and Sayyid Muhammad Shareeful Madani Dargah president Al-Haji U S Hamza, Ullal Sri Cheerumbha Bhagavati Kshetra president Chandrahas Ullal, Bar Council Association Bantwal former president advocate Menala Ashwanikumar Rai will be the guests of honour.
It may be mentioned here that Videocon Industries Limited presented a Mercedes car to Malaika Group chairman Gilbert Baptist during September 2013, for expanding network of showrooms in Mumbai and Dakshina Kannada district, and for his efficiency in managing sales outlets and meeting customer satisfaction.
The new Malaika showroom will offer multi-brand products at affordable rates with assured free gifts. It will also offer their own product Yasoma brand as special gifts, for purchases of their multi-branded products such as LG, Samsung, Haier, HP, Dell, Asus, Acer, Toshiba, Compac, MSI, Panasonic, Sharp, Canon, Philips, Electrolux, Videocon, Fuji, Sony, HCL, Lenova etc on discounted rates.
Malaika Multi-State Credit Society will offer 12 percent interest rate to senior citizens and 11.50 percent to others. An additional of 0.5 percent will be offered for annual deposit of Rs 10 lac and above. The loans will be offered for buying household appliances, gold and loan against jewellery. Senior manager Felix Veigas Modankap and Malaika Credit Society Thokkottu branch manager Yashwant Uchil urged the customers to avail the introductory offer to get maximum discounts on household appliances.
About Malaika Group founder Gilbert Baptist
Gilbert is the son of Faustine Baptist and Agnes Veigas, residents of Shamboor, near Panemangalore in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district. Malaika Group is the brainchild of Gilbert who is the chairman and managing director of Mumbai-based Malaika Appliances Private Limited and Malaika Co-operative Credit Society Limited. Malaika Group also manufactures its own brand of Yasoma RO – water purifier drinking water system, induction cooktop and mixer grinder that is also sold at their outlets in Mangalore and Bantwal at very competitive rates.
Gilbert completed diploma in electrical engineering at KPT, Mangalore during 1982 after completing II PUC in science at SVS College, Bantwal. He migrated to Mumbai in search of better prospects and was employed in Kirloskar Cummins Limited as sales and servicing engineer during 1983. He had a vision to open a small scale industry that took him back to Mumbai, where he set up an electronic components manufacturing unit at Sakinaka, Powai, Andheri (East). He found success in entrepreneurship by supplying electronic components to renowned companies including as Sony, Orson, Videocon, Onida and Sharp. Malaika has carved a niche in household appliances across Mumbai.
Gilbert is married to Marceline G Baptist who is also a director in Malaika Group and they have three daughters – Malaika, Sonica and Yashica. The family is settled in Mira Road, a mini Mangalore town in Mumbai. The Group is committed to the welfare of senior citizens who are shareholders of Malaika Co-operative Credit Society and also their children by organizing annual get-together, recognizing their talents. He has no greed for publicity and is simple and humble person.
Malaika is the authorized deal for entire south India for Japanese made Thailand products of LCD and LED and other products besides it sells their in house products.
