It's official: 'Aadhar' Nandan Nilekani joins Congress

Bangalore, Mar 9 (PTI) : Unique Identification Authority of India Chairman Nandan Nilekani joined the Congress on Sunday, a day after he was declared the party’s candidate for Bangalore South Lok Sabha seat.

Nilekani, the face of “Aadhar” programme, was formally inducted into the Congress with KPCC President G Parameshwara handing over the party flag to him before he filled in the membership form at a function at the party office here.

“I think I bring some unique experience to the people,” he said.

“Three major things I was part of- first, from scratch I was co-founder of one of India’s largest companies (Infosys), so I know how to create jobs and I have created lakhs of them.

Number two, from scratch from idea I was part of ID programme which gave 60 crore people identity. Third, 1999 to 2004 I was
chairman of BATF (Bangalore Agenda Task Force) where I got an opportunity to go into the nitty-gritty of local governance..”

“I know every detail of how a city functions, so the fact that I have diverse experience, I’m a clean and local candidate. Therefore people should vote for me,” he said.

On his political debut, 58-year-old Nilekani will be taking on BJP’s Ananth Kumar, who has remained unchallenged in Bangalore South, winning the seat five times.

Weeks before his formal entry into Congress, Nilekani has begun his campaign, coming to grips with ground realities as he faces a daunting task with the polls just less than six weeks as the election in Karnataka is slated for April 17.

Rules stipulate that ticket seekers should serve in the party for three years but it has apparently been relaxed in the case of Nilekani, who is said to be close to the Gandhi family.

With greatest respect for Sri Nandan Nilekani,co founder of Infosys,I humbly submit that Infosys was not made by one man but a collective effort of of people like Sru Narayana Murthy,Raghavan,Gopalakruishan,G.R.Nayak and many others. So telling I made Infosys and provided lakhs of job oppertunities does not hold good.My am nor enthused by the orogramme like 'Aadhaar'for a country like India at this juncture where in we have miserably failed to provide even ordinary election ID cards to its citzens at their door step.Unless we acknowldge this ordinary facts of failure we loose the honor of boasting any other so cakled achievement.

With due respect to NN for his sincerity and intelligence the total efforts put in by NN in making Aadhar Card is totally gone to the drain. Moreover, whether he knows or not how many Bangla Deshis, Pakistanis got Aadhar number which indirectly makes them as the citizen of this great country. This was only ploy from Congress to appease nothing else. He further says that he knows how to create job sidelining the great Narayan Murthy and others who worked with him in tandem to create a global Company Infosys. Of course for doing social work it is not necessary to align with some corrupt party, thereby he himself spoiling his good name. Better come out of this and in case you need to contest you contest as an Independent and you will have more than enough chance to win this election.

NaMo wave is simply a media hype.
BJP was boasting during assembly election, saying that they would get 150 seats. But people gave them
only 40 seats. In Loksabha election
BJP will not get more than 10 seats
In spite of Yedyurappa's come back.
Yedyurappa is sidelined by BJP leaders,His supporters are left out
with false promises.CM Siddharamayya is doing a fabulous jon in Karnataka. If BJP and Modi want to give a corruption free Govt then why did they took back Yedyurappa and now trying to welcome Sriramulu!

Its indeed sad to see such a highly educated, talented & resourceful person such as Nilekani plunge into politics- that too via Congress..This party has been so much corrupt & indulging in communal & petty politics with peoples lives do not measure up to his standards. He should have realized that 15K Crores were put away down the drain by the flop Aaadhaar project, all this money given to local Congress politicians, relatives & friends to put to waste this prestigious idea of one single number. That aside, my respect for this person now stands diluted. Very sad indeed

If NN wanted to bring changes in Bangalore/India, he could have contested as an Independent candidate rather joining the most corrupt political party which has done so many scams which they themselves may not remember. Even of he win he will have to sit in the opposition in LS. No one can stop NaMo from becoming the PM. NN will still ask for permission from his madam or her son to bring in his ideas. I feel pity for NN. All respect earned throughout his life will be lost in the next 5 yrs.

Who knows, some day Nilekani might the PM and NRN the Prez. And with Kejriwal as opposition leader, the picture will be complete with high achieving ex-IITians all the way. The duffers and corrupt will have to go to where they belong. Won't this be a harbinger of Ramrajya or is it just my wishful thinking?

What ever the past of a person, he will become waste once he enters Indian Politrics.Such an example is Shashi Taroor. He was about to get General Secretary of United Nation but could not. Later he entered Indian Politrics and now you can see what has happened to him. IPL controversy, wife death controversy etc. So Indian Politricks will change all good people. It is a trap.

With the bringing in of a clean and capable candidate like Nandan Nilekani I hope the Congress will bring in a new generation of good and capable leaders and weed out the corrupt ones who have brought disrepute to the party.
I am sure the Congress will revive its image and Rahul may even step aside if needed in the interest of the nation to give capable leaders a chance to lead. I believe it will happen.
We need non-corrupt and non-communal leaders to run this country. We hope that a cleaner Congress and AAP guide India's destiny towards greater prosperity. If BJP wishes to be part of the India growth story they will have to TOTALLY abandon their communal agenda or face extinction sooner or later.

I cannot nicer stand one thing here. All the while the congis were boasting about internal democracy, Pappus three point criteria for ticket aspirants. Poor old horse of mangalore Janardhan Poojary's had to go through all these nataka even though he was the obvious choice for congress ticket for whatsoever reason.
But look at the hypocrisy of the cones here Nandan Nelkani as a outsider first gets a congress ticket and he then joins congress. hahahaha, where are Pappus 3 point criteria ? Where is their internal democracy now when old congress men who were ticket aspirants are disappointed and NN is bought in in the sale of ticket. This is congress Jai ho.

One Congi in the forum was mentioning today that Congi candidates are film stars, cricketers , item girls, cheer girls etc and BJP candidates are all criminals and corrupt. I want to ask him , with this background is your congress planning to serve the country of start another IPL ?

Congress knows very well they will loose badly with their old team that's why they are cashing in on the popularity of some famous or infamous people to get some numbers this time. Not that they want to serve the people or the country and unfortunately some fools are falling for it.
