Mangalore: 39 gold pieces worth over Rs 25 lac seized at airport

Mangalore, Mar 9: The officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport on Sunday March 9 seized 39 gold pieces worth over Rs 25 lac and arrested a passenger.
The 39 gold pieces, totally weighing 816.450 grams and valued at Rs 25,22,830 were found concealed in two unbranded AC adapters and two DIC brand car power supply transformers.
They were seized from a passenger identified as Muhammed Rafeeque Kizhakkante Purakkal, a resident of Kozhikode, Kerala.
He arrived at Mangalore International Airport on March 9 at around 7.30 am by Air India Express fight IX814 from Dubai. The said passenger was arrested later and produced before the magistrate.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, assistant commissioner of customs, Mangalore International Airport.
Further investigation is on, under the guidance of customs commissioner D Purushotham.
