Mangalore: Hundreds participate in 'Nirbhaya Run' for women's safety

Mangalore, Mar 9: Hundreds of students and citizens descended on the streets here on Sunday March 9 to participate in the 'Gunashree Nirbhaya Run'.

The participants ran, jogged, walked and cheered to create awareness on the issue of women's safety and security.

The event was organized by the MBA students of National Institute of Technology - Karnataka (NITK) in association with Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL), a city based NGO and youth portal youthania.com.

The run was flagged off by Indian Olympian athlete Vandana Shanbogue near Mangala Stadium.

The route passed through Ladyhill junction, KSRTC bus stand, Kadri Kambala road, CV Nayak Hall, Bunts Hostel, PVS junction, MG Road and culminated back at Mangala Stadium.

Cheering and encouraging the runners, Sandeep Malani, bollywood director,  Sachitha Nandagopal, director, CIL , Prof Bhattacharya, and Lioness Geetha R Shetty, active social worker added to the crowd's exuberance.

RJ Arpith of Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM hosted the event.

    Wish they could have done some constructive work like clean the beach, clean the fish market( in Bunder for that you need to be extremely brave) what people achieve just by running!!, escapes my logic!

    Wish they could have done some constructive work like clean the beach, clean the fish market( in Bunder for that you need to be extremely brave) what people have achieved just by running what they achieve by it, escapes my logic!

    keep it going girls......never give up....bravo!!!!Students who are all eligible for Voting and as well as the Youngsters have to come together and VOTE in the coming elections and defeat the corrupt and communal forces is the ONLY way for the safety of NOT only women but all the citizens of this country.
