Mangalore: Week-long camp for voter registration from March 9

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (NM)

Mangalore, Mar 8:
A week-long special camp for registration of new names in the voters' list or corrections in the existing voter id cards will start from Sunday March 9 in all the polling stations, said deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim, adding that the campaign will culminate on March 16.

Briefing media persons on the forthcoming election preparations, the DC on Saturday March 8 said that the registration of young voters is very poor across India.

"The citizens must make the maximum use of the special camp to enroll their names. It is not enough to have voter id. Only those people who have their names in the voters' list are eligible to cast their votes," he further said.

"The special camps are set up in all the 1,766 polling stations across Dakshina Kannada constituency. There will be a booth level officer (BLO) in every polling station with a list of the names of voters. Apart from the corrections in the identity card, all those who completed 18 years on or before January 1, 2014 can register names for the voter id card," the DC said.

Instructions:

· You cannot vote if your name is not on the voters' list.
· Special camps will be held at evey polling station in the country.
· Check you name on the electoral roll pasted on the wall of your polling station.
· If your name is not there you can fill form 6 available with the BLO sitting outside the polling station and submit there itself.
· BLO will help you filling the form.

The officers will be at the poll stations from 10 am to 5 pm during the camp.

It is possible to make use of the campaign online too. The websites are www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in and www.eci.gov.in. Voters can also verify if their names are there in the voters' list by logging on to www.ceokarnataka.kar.nic.in.

The last date to apply for new voter id is March 16.

Election time table

Last date to submit nomination letter – March 26 (From 11am to 3pm)
Verification of nomination letter – March 27
Withdrawal of nomination – March 29
Polling date – April 17 (From 7 am – 5 pm)
Poll counting – May 16 (From 8am onwards)

Polling stations and voters

The Dakshina Kannada district includes 8 Assembly constituencies. According to the voters' list published on January 31, there are 1,766 polling stations with 15,30,071 (men – 7,57,883 and women – 7,72,188)

Election code of conduct

The DC said that there are monitoring bodies placed strategically to observe violation of model code of conduct. No candidate or political party should ask for votes on the basis of religion and faith. Personal life of the candidate should not be used in the speeches.

Prayer houses shall not be used for campaigning.

According to the election commission, no candidate is allowed to spend more than Rs 70 lac on election campaign.

Each legislative constituency will have sectoral magistrate, flying squad, video surveillance team, video viewing team, static surveillance team and sector officers who will closely monitor election campaign.

In addition, for any issues relation to the forthcoming elections, the district administration is open for queries and complaints day and night, the DC said, adding that the helpline number 1077 (toll free) is available to the public to register complaints.

The DC further said that to control paid news in television and print media, MCMC committee is formed to look into it. To register online complaint, one can log on to http://dk.nic.in.

Besides, the district administration has directed all weapon licence holders to submit revolvers and weapons to the nearby police stations. There are 14,000 weapon licence holders in the district, the DC added.

last date as d for new registration and changes was 16 mar 2014. i applied online on 13th mar and sent a hard copy the next day. online status shows under progress. on visiting election office at MCC i am told that for form 8 the last date was 14th Mar and your form 8 cannot be possessed as we received the hard copy on 19th mar.
would like to know from where did this date 14th mar come. secondly if applying online with all documents and photographs why do these people wait for the hard copy. its high time that either one system be followed taht is hard copy or soft copy system. on applying online is it not the responsibility of the election commission to visit the residence and collect documents if hard copy is required by them. online in india is only namesake to show that we are in an internet age. actually its still the age old system.
secondly the data entry system by election office. they feed name as they wish. for example my name is spelled as gautam, but frequently without reading the spelling they type it either gowtham or gautham. this really seems funny. election commission of india please take a note.

After several misguides and shuttling, I finally managed to submit Form6A (NRI voter registration) as per ECI guidelines on 7 Jan 14 at DC Election Office. After waiting 2 months for a response, my wife (who had traveled to Mangalore yesterday) was told today that all such forms/applications were kept pending and will only be processed after the elections! Meaning NO NRI voter registration post Dec 2013 until May 2014! I was indeed planning to arrange my travel to coincide with the polling date. So much for the "Special Voter Registration Camp". Wish the DC/Election officials look in their own cupboards to begin with!

Please put the present voters list on the web site so that we can check the said list from our homes. If we find that our names are missing in the given list, then we will approach the polling booth in our region and fill Form No. 6 available with the BLO sitting outside the polling station and will submit it there itself.
Please create the needful web page and intimate it. This will reduce the rush in the polling booths and reduce the inconvenience to the voting eligible citizens.
