Mangalore, Mar 7: A constable of Udupi police station has been accused of cheating a girl with false promises of marriage and luring her into having a physical relationship with him.
A complaint in this regard has been filed against constable Ashok, a resident of Padubidri Padubettu, who serves in the Udupi police department. The complaint has been filed in Mulky police station as the girl is a resident of Hudco colony in Mulky.
The girl claimed that she and Ashok have been in a relationship for the last 10 years. She said that Ashok was a friend of her relative and used to come to visit her family often, during which time they fell in love.
"Ashok promised to marry me and believing his words, I let him have a physical relationship with me," she stated in her complaint.
"However, Ashok cheated me and married another girl in 2012. Feeling upset at this, I approached the woman and child welfare committee for justice, but despite filing a complaint with the committee no action was taken. Hence I am filing a complaint with police," she said.
It is said that the elders in the family and others had held discussions several times to settle the matter, but their efforts had failed. The girl then decided to take legal recourse.
The Mulky police who registered a case have questioned Udupi constable Ashok and further investigations are on.
