Mangalore, Mar 6: Department of General Surgery and Obstetrics and Gynaecology, OBG in collaboration with the department of Oncosurgery and Urology Father Muller Medical College Hospital organized the ‘Muller Laparosurg-2014’, a live workshop on Minimal Access Surgery for General Surgeons, Oncosurgeons, Urologists and Gynaecologists on March and March 2 at Father Muller Charitable Institutions.
The inaugural fuction was held on March 1 at the Decennial Memorial Hall.
The chief guest of the function was Dr Rajgopal Shenoy, Head, Department of Surgery, KMC, Manipal. Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, FMCI presided over the function. The observer from Medical council Dr Anand Bangera, vice dean of Father muller medical College, Dr Prakash Shetty, Dr. Erel Diaz, HOD, Dept of Surgery, Dr Prema D’Cunha, HOD, Dept of Obstetrics and Gynaecology were also present.
The inaugural function commenced after the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
The chief guest of the function Dr Rajgopal Shenoy said, “In England surgery began with Barber Surgeons. During the last couple of years the field of surgery has seen tremendous growth due the great contribution of some eminent personalities.”
He added, “In the past there was no much exposure, but now there are various workshops,seminars, CMEs being conducted helping the doctors to have a better understanding of the field. Technology is ever evolving, there are various facilities which will help them grow a long way. In today’s world people believe only on what they see.” He concluded with a piece of advice that one should be determined and work hard.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues in his presidential address said, “ Laproscopic Surgery has lot of advantages but the final result is in hands of the surgeon. To have a positive outcome adequate experience and expertise is essential.. This workshop gives an opportunity to the participants to understand how best this technique can be used for the advantage of the patient.”
The workshop aims to demonstrate various Colorectal, Upper Gl, Hernia, Urological and gynecological procedures by renowned laparoscopic surgeons from various parts of the country. With path breaking technology surgeries are shown live on a TV screen so as to educate the doctors and inspire them. This initiative will also improve their skills and help them be an expert in their field.
