Sullia: Riding without licence - Bike won in lucky dip takes life of student

Daijiworld Media Network – Sullia (SP)

Sullia, Mar 6: On Wednesday March 5, a motor bike in which two second PU students were travelling collided with a pickup jeep at Edoli in Subrahmanya-Sullia road. As a result, the pillion rider of the two-wheeler died on the spot, while the rider was hospitalized with critical injuries.

It is learnt that both the students, who belonged to the arts section, had been to Subrahmanya PU College to collect their hall tickets relating to the upcoming final examinations. The fateful accident occurred when they were returning to their home towards Guttigar.

Vishwas G (17), eldest son of Janu Naik from Gowrigundi House in Halkur village, did not have a driver's licence, it is learnt. He is survived by parents, a brother, and a sister.

It is learnt that Kaushik had won the motor bike in a lucky dip draw conducted by a concern in Sullia last year. The motor bike has not been registered even after a year, it is said.

Eyewitnesses said the motor bike, which was moving at considerably speed, hit the pickup jeep at Edoli bend, as a result of which both the teenagers moving on the bike were thrown on to the road. Kaushik, who hails from Volalambe, had invited Vishwas, his friend, to accompany him on the motor bike ride to the college.  Vishwas, whose head hit the road, died on the spot after bleeding from nose, ears, and head, while Kaushik survived with injuries to chest and hands. Kaushik is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Puttur.

On account of the untimely death of a student, the PU college was closed for the day.

He was lucky to have won a bike, but unlucky to have lost his life. Being lucky need not be always good.

Please stop commenting on everything. how many of us know the traffic rules, how many of us follow the rules. Do we have any rules to follow? The question is about our lives. I saw all of us creating our own rules and following rules. Look at Mangalore. Few roads having lane marks, signals and everything but we don't follow it. One person using two lanes while driving This is what we are. Lets all follow the same rules. then after at least we can save our life.

This is due to ruling party, not implementing strict rules of wearing helmet. For every bad thing happening no matter what Govt must accept responsibility........
I am not expecting Joke of 2014 award. India is doing wonders in Educational, Industrial, Agricultural fields, but this is not due to ruling party efforts or five year plans ..wait for expert opinions.......

Sad! May the departed soul RIP!! Speedy recovery for the injured!!!

This happens anywhere and wherever mankind exists not an exception to Mangalore or India.

The teenage is a critical factor in life and tendency to defy things. Unfortunately, luck and fate are 2 sides of the coin.

What can be an influencing factor is the best parenting and a responsible society providing right morals and ethicates.

BTW, recalling my teenage, I too have been such a venturing teen but fatefully lucky and I thank God for all the gracious care. My job now is to advise the younger generation (including mine) of fateful consequences and dangers of such a defense.

yes, I agree with you. Parents tell someting, they don't like and no patience to listen. If parents don't stop them , they will go in wrong routes. So, challenging situation for parents with current youth and generation. The same problem is faced by teachers with younger generation. Unfortunate that our youth is going in this wrong direction.

Very sad incident. RIP to the departed soul.
It is now common in our Mangalore and surrounding villages to see the young boys even of 13 to 14 years are riding scooters and bikes, even four wheelers. Mosts of the cases parents encourages them and feel proud of their children as if they climbed the everest mountain.

Very very sad indeed. But youngsters do not learn from the mistakes committed by others. I have heard a young boy telling the parents who refused to give him bike in lieu to take car which is safe "if am destined to die I will die anyhow"

This is the attitude of youngsters now a days. Very strange generation. 'Have plenty of knowledge but poor judgement'
Excuse, am not pointing out any individual.

Too many children are allowed to drive the bike by the parents before obtaining license which is so dangerous.Really sorry to know that bike lottery has turned into a death lottery to the young boy.Our sympathy with the unfortunate parents.Thanq.

    RIP Guy.
I am wondering about the lucky dip they run in Sullia in the name Charitable trusts. The guys who run these schemes need to be questioned about the source of money and also should be questioned on running instalment schemes out of public's money in the name charity.
Why there is no action on questioning them?

They give bike, car, electronic items in the name of charity and poors die for this scheme.

    People,

Too many precious life is taken away due to road accidents...its really sad and tragic...there could be many reasons for this...main reasons in my opinion vehicle standards are improved in the last few years, but the road condition remains same...also Indian Driving standards are very poor compared to other countries...Nobody should be given Drivers License without passing strict written and driving test like in western countries...

I agree with Mr. Langool. The best thing would be to put some checkpoints, especially near colleges for checking whether everyone has licenses.
