Mangalore, Mar 5: "The model code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections has already been enforced, hence proper bandobast will be done for a free and fair election after holding discussions with officers," said newly appointed SP Dr Sharanappa S D.

Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday March 5 shortly after assuming his new charge, Dr Sharanappa said, "There is a lot of difference between Gulbarga and Dakshina Kannada. There are problems like Naxalisim and communalism in Dakshina Kannada, which are not prevalent in Gulbarga. These issues will be tackled after after a proper study of the situation," he said.

"Professionalism in the police department will be given importance. Basic training on community policing will be provided to improve professionalism among the personnel so that the public would benefit. I had done it in Gulbarga, and will do the same here in Dakshina Kannada," he said.

When reporters asked how he plans to deal with politcal pressure in the district, he said, "Law is like Bible to us and I will act according to the law. If it gets too hard to survive I will walk out."

He further informed that he belonged to IPS batch of 2009, and had served in Tumkur as a probationary, and as ASP in Sagar, before being appointed as interim SP to Gadag. He completed his postgraduation at Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore, and earned his PhD in genetics and plant breeding from Indian Agriculture Research, New Delhi.

"Law is like Bible to us and I will act according to the law. If it gets too hard to survive I will walk out."...that's a bold officer and a gentleman there. Dear Sir, my sincere wishes to you. Every day our beautiful Mangalore has been growing and is now almost bustling at its seams. It is a big challenge for anyone to keep a tab on illegal activities. Somewhere down the line has lost its emotional touch. We as a people have become arrogant. Many of our auto drivers once famous to be honest, jump at the opportunity to fleece people. The bus drivers known to be patient with old citizens now harshly scold them if they cannot get in or get out fast. They rule the roads and if confronted act like rowdies. These are just small examples of our beloved city has become. Fruits of development. But looking at many other cities, our police force has some humanity left in it. But then again slowly somewhere something is missing. Perhaps it is the human touch !!! Dear Sir, officers like you are the need of the hour. I am sure you have a big job at hand and you will get the job done !!! All the best to you Sir and the entire city of Mangalore welcome you with a whole heart. May God bless you!!! THE MAN AT THE MOUNTAIN DID NOT FALL THERE !!!

When you see a Doctorate, sober, articulate young gentlemen, then you wonder!! how come they join IPS ?? Anyhow, what we see through our external eye and what we opine may be different, Let us wish them all the best, as they have to walk a tight rope between Law and Order and the Politician. Let our mighty God give him the inner strength to do Policing very effectively. Jai Hind.

Congratulation and welcome to Mangalore.Whatever may be your good ambitions, here in Mangalore pressure from influential people and political parties don't allow you to sleep peacefully.Your vision may be good, accomplishment of your mission might be very tough in Mangalore.Any wish you all the best, hope to see harmony, peaceful life,no burglary,no theft,no robbery,no moral policing,no girls run away cases, gang rapes during your tenure but tough task ahead. Many came and gone with big promises but returned the half fried egg.It does not mean that they were incapable, they were capable, but here in Mangalore survival is very difficult.System will not allow you to perform your duties diligently.Hope, you will ensure peace in the city.Wish you all the best.

Mr. Sinha has indeed functioned well and his leaving Mangalore will be a loss to The City and the people of Dakshina Kannada. As I said before, it is my thought and wish, that in due course he comes back to Mangalore as The Commissioner of Police.

I read with great interest the qualities of the new incumbent - the incoming S.P. Dr. Sharanappa. I did not realize that this soft spoken gentleman is bold in his statement and I believe that he says what he means -

When reporters asked how he plans to deal with political pressure in the district, he said, "Law is like Bible to us and I will act according to the law. If it gets too hard to survive I will walk out."

So Mangalore has one more PH.D with a doctorate in genetics and plant breeding.

Welcome Mr. Sharanappa. may your tenure in Mangalore be a successful - a fruitful one and a happy one too.
