Mangalore, Mar 3: Even as the district came to a halt over Netravati water issue on Monday, March 3, Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo in a laudable gesture distributed free food to all the stranded passengers at the bus stand who were starving due to the impact of the bandh.

It is learnt that nearly 580 KSRTC buses were canceled due to the bandh; as a result of which scores of passengers had to suffer as they had no other means of transport to reach their destinations.

With the situation being such, Lobo distributed free food to all the passengers who were stuck at the bus stand. As many as 350 to 400 people were able to have lunch because of his gesture.

Lobo also spoke to the stranded passengers and listened to their greveinces and gave them moral support while also explaining the situation.

Speaking to media persons, Lobo said the people of the district have expressed their opposition to the Yettinahole project through the bandh. "There is a need for proper scientific study with regard to this project.  I will again discuss this issue with the CM and the governmnent and bring the picture to their notice," he said.

Former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty said the bandh has been successful in all ways. "Many associations have voluntarily joined hands with us for a noble cause to prevent the diversion of the Netravti river. Massive protests will be held in the coming days, if the government does not fulfill our demands," he added.

Activists of various associations who have been supporting the bandh were also preent on the occasion and rendered their help.

Leaders P V Mohan, Denis D’Silva, T K Sudhir, Ramanand Bolar, Dinakar Shetty, Shashiraj Shetty Kolambe, M G Hegde, Jayakar Samarth, Nemiraj Shetty, Badruddin, Radhakrishna and others were present.

    Dear Mr.Lobo

Hope you and your party visit these columns to get some feedback on your obsession to supply "Drinking Water" to thirsty people in Tumkur, Bangalore, D-Ballapur etc, at the cost of Nethravathi and DK.

If you intend to supply drinking water (no-one believes your party/Siddas words on this issue), how come you plan to fill the pumped water into age old existing tanks in these places for further pumping? Now the diverted water will only get dirty/evaporate from these tanks and will not be fit for drinking water.

If you are planning to supply only drinking water, build necessary water tanks in the needy places and pump to these tanks from reservoirs which can store & keep the clean waters for drinking purpose. Also have some parity for usage of so called excess water to the rainfall & water flow into DK.

Further the Karnataka Government should install a tribunal consisting of eminent jurists to monitor that the water extracted from Nethravathi to ensure:

    1. The water is used only for Drinking water.
    2. will use ONLY and ONLY excess water that is flowing into sea, which will be scientifically measured in relation to rainfall and the end use is ensured viz., for Drinking water in needy cities

If government gives you confidence to DK by appointing a tribunal at least there will be some solace to DK.

But for eye on contracts for using this costly project & sensationalizing to build vote Banks. All political parties, including yours, which has power do not have even an iota of sincerity in trenching their thirsty.

Anyways, your party doesn't seem to bother about DK, when the other side Vote Bank is bigger in size.

I welcome your words that the scientific tenability of the project should be re-looked. Hope you will work with Government for appointment of Tribunal to ensure to save the interest of DK by necessary regulation of excess water flow for this project.

I still remember Maharashtra State Employees organized huge Morcha early in 1988 against computerization of their respective department by claiming that a large number of staff members will be jobless and terminated from their services. But now on few of the same Staff Members are not willing to work unless they provide with latest Computers along with Internet connection too. So, it is worthless to go on agitation unless we know the full consequences and advantage of this project in our region.

May I request our “Daiji” to bring out separate articles showing complete details of this project pls? Because I believe this is the brain child of our Ex-President APJ Kalam by naming the project as “River Joining” whereby maximizing the utilization of excess water flowing to sea during rainy season. Because of Netravati, if few more lakhs of people get at least drinking water facility why not? But to save someone and killing others means its foolishness too

Commenting is easy, but helping needs a caring heart.sir lobo doesn't need publicity.he has been working for the public service for past 2-3 decades.most of those who are commenting here must be knowing him only after the elections 2013.

What's the point in forcing the bundh and then feeding those who were stranded? Instead, those who wish to observe the bundh should stay home and those who wish to work should go about their work. Bundhs are nothing but a way of stroking the ego of politicians. The more people you inconvenience, more are the politicians chances of getting tickets in the next election.

Does anyone think of crores of ruppes of business lost, all the people who are stranded, exams cancelled, sick, unable to get to the emergency room and weddings disrupted. Everyone has the all the freedom in the world to NOT work in the name of bundh. But you do not have the right to force others to not work.

This is very strange. At one side his own Party CM is announcing the Project by totally ignoring the plight of DK region and in another side another MLA distributing the free food for all. This gesture is good or bad, but the motive behind this action is very bad and political too. A few years ago, when people of Jui Nagar in Navi Mumbai complained about skin deceases due to newly formed chemical factory, Maharashtra CM announced to construct Skin Specialty Hospital to treat the affected people. It’s same like in USA, death convicted person strapped to “Gurney” to take his lethal injection and Prison In-charge will ask last wish of the convicted person. If he asks for forgiveness and spare him, but In-Charge would say sorry I can’t help you out on your wish!!!!!

But our MP is in deep sleep Jeevan. He is nowhere in the scene. It seems Nalin Kumar is supporting Yettinahole project. DVS is neither in Chickballapur nor in South Canara. Vanished from the scene. Great patriots of our district.

Jeevan Why Lobo should resign. This is due to misdeeds of Yeddi then Sadhanada Gadda today DK is facing the problem. Why your BJP MLA or MP opened their mouth. Where is BD ,VHP & RSS.

It is indeed a generous gesture on the part MLA Lobo to come to the rescue of the stranded passengers and distribute food to them.

All that I can say is that ever since the election Mr. J.R. Lob has done a lot for the community, thus proving the choice of the people.

It is sincerely hoped that his approach to The Chief Minister will bear fruit and that the people of Kakshina Kannada will not be deprived of their legitimate rights.
