Mangalore: 3-day Nadavali Utsav at Kudroli Bhagavati Kshetra concludes

Mangalore, Mar 2: The annual Nadavali Utsav of Kudroli Bhagavati Kshetra, located at Bhagavati Temple road, Kodialbail, concluded on Friday February 28. The three day festival was celebrated with much fanfare and traditional gaiety.

One of the highlights of this festival is the 'Kendaseve' where the devotee walks over burning coals. The chiefs of 18 villages take part in the ritual, in the presence of devotees.

Kudroli Bhagavati Kshetra is the origin for all the 18 Bhagavati Temples of Thiya Samaj.

The prominent deities of Kudroli Bhagavati Kshetra are Chirumbhi Bhagavati, Padangara Bhagavati and Pulluralli Bhagavati. It is also believed that Bhagavati took her ‘Avatar’ to destroy the demon Darukasura.

Maha puja was offered to Chirumbhi Bhagavati, followed by a 'Bali Utsav'. The idol of Chirumbhi Bhagavati was taken around the temple in a palanquin. On the second day, puja was offered to Padangara Bhagavati, followed by a Betikala.

The three deities were in midnight procession to the Bhagavati Katte and brought back to the temple for the Kendaseve.

Cultural programmes were also part of the festivities.

The Nadavali festival is held every year. Once in seven years the grand seven day festival of 'Bharani' is held. The festival of all festivals, called the 'Kaliyata' is held once in 25 years, and celebrated in 17 other temples.
