Mangalore: Centenary celebrations of Rosario Cathedral inaugurated

Mangalore, Mar 2: The centenary year celebrations of Rosario Cathedral got under way at the Cathedral premises here on Sunday, March 2. Though the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church is 447 years old, it became a cathedral in 1915.
The formal programme began with the prayer song sung by the church choir and a welcome dance by the parish kids.
Dolphy D'Souza parishioner, welcome the guests on to the dais and introduced them.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza released a book of projects of Rosario Cathedral and Fr J B Crasta, parish priest, briefed about the book.
Fr J B Crasta said, "The book gives information on the future projects which will be helpfull for all of us. Even earlier we had brought out such a book, but this year we have included names of those who will take the responsibility of the projects, which would make it easy to start the project in future. This book contains the projects pertaining to the development of the church, people and so on."
'Way of the Cross', a book by parishioner Marcel D'Souza was released by bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza.
Bishop Dr Aloysius in his presidential address praised Fr J B Crasta for his hard work and efforts towards the welfare and development of the parish and its people.
He said, "Church is the center of our lives, It is the beginning of religion, a part of our lives. Everyone must strive for the betterment of the church and of the society. No one should ever say that he or she is not interested in doing so."
John D'Silva, vice-principal of St Aloysius College, who is also a Rosario parishioner, proposed the vote of thanks.
The formal function was compered by Ida Furtado.
Sr Linet, Sr Hilda Albuquerque, Fr Amith Rodrigues, Fr Alwyn Serrao, Fr Rocky Fernandes, area corporator Abdul Latif, Fr Jayaprakash, Fr Joseph Martis and others were also present during the ceremony.
