Harsha Moily, son of union minister Dr Veerappa Moily, had filed his nomination to contest the Congress primary which would decide the party's candidate from Mangalore for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Internal election observer Praniel Nair said that Harsha Moily's nomination was rejected on the grounds that he had failed to meet the eligibility criteria of a candidate set by the AICC.
As per the party's handbook, nomination for the primary can be filed by 'A person of standing in public service/social cause and who is not a member of any other political party'. Harsha Moily had filed his nomination based on this criteria, but his claim was rejected.
This means, the internal election will now be between veteran leader Janardhan Poojary and businessman and state vice-president of Congress Minority Cell U Kanachur Monu.
The primary will be held on March 9 and the results will be declared the same day.
Harsha Moily and Janardhan Poojary were the main aspirants for Congress Lok Sabha ticket from Mangalore. With Moily now out of the race, Poojary's supporters feel his win is assured.
