Udupi, Mar 1: The district Women’s Congress Committee held a massive conference on Saturday March 1 at Ammani Ramanna Shetty Memorial Hall. The conference was flagged off with a rally from Government Pre-University College, Udupi to the venue.
The conference was inaugurated by Vinay Kumar Sorake, district-in-charge minister, by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, he said that the state government has fulfilled 95 promises out of the 168 mentioned in the manifesto in a duration of just 8 months. "The people must hence vote for the Congress its grand success in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election. Women’s Reservation Bill has been passed in the Lok Sabha, but the Rajya Sabha is not lettting it be tabled. Thus, it is still pending," he added.
"UPA has conducted various programmes for the welfare of rural farmers and residents of rural areas. Narendra Modi is a strong contestant, but BJP thinks they can get votes by hanging pictures of him... it is all a delusion. They (BJP) are propagating wrong notions about the Congress administration. With their ideologies based on caste, religion, and God, the BJP may have a bad impact on the youth," added Sorake.
He also alleged that Modi took a lead role in the Gujarat riots of 2002. "If the public choose him as the PM, the nation may slip into a critical situation. This is the right time to think who is qualified to become a leader. Let us think about brightening the future of the nation and work for a secular state collectively. This is the right time to take a clear stand about our dream country, which is in your hands," said Sorake.
Chief guests Manjula Nayak, state superintendent, Pramod Madhwaraj and Gopal Poojary, MLAs, Jayaprakash Hegde, MP, Yuvaraj Puttur, president of municipality, Amritha Krishnamoorti, vice-president, municipality, M A Gafoor, Gopal Bhandari, Shyamala Bhandari, Celina Karkala, and Veronica Cornelio were present.
