New Delhi, Mar 1: Top BJP leader Sushma Swaraj, who once upon a time had called BSR Congress founder B Sriramulu as her 'son', has reportedly expressed objection to his re-induction into the party's fold.
As reported earlier, Sriramulu's entry into the BJP, the party he had bid farewell to in 2011, is almost certain to happen within a week.
Sriramulu, who has been knocking on BJP's doors and holding meetings with party president Rajnath Singh and Nitin Gadkari, has said that he would be returning to the party soon. The state unit of BJP has already given its green signal to him.
However, Sushma Swaraj who was close to Sriramulu until the illegal mining scam came out in the open, has reportedly conveyed to the party high command that it would not be right to take back Sriramulu as he was a close aide of former minister Gali Janardhan Reddy who is in jail for his alleged involvement in the illegal mining scam.
Swaraj, who had once called the Reddy brothers her 'sons', distanced herself from them soon after the illegal mining scam became public. She has even taken care not to speak about them in public.
Nevertheless, the state BJP leaders have told the high command that if Sriramulu is re-inducted, there is every chance that the party would garner public support in Bellary and surrounding regions.
It is expected that the party leaders would try to convince Sushma Swaraj and then re-induct Sriramulu back into the party's fold. Party sources said that just as former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa was welcomed back despite opposition from veteran leader L K Advani, Sriramulu too would be brought back even if Sushma Swaraj does not give her consent.
