Bangalore, Feb 28: The Bangalore Mahanagara District Congress Committee Minorities Cell is organising a one-day convention on minorities here on Saturday.
The one-day convention being inaugurated by KPCC President Dr G Parameshwar would urge the state government to implement its 13-point charter of demands for improving the quality of life of the people belonging to the minorities.
Bangalore Mahanagara District Congress Committee Minorities Cell Chairman H B Chand Pasha said that the demands include 15 per cent quota in boards and corporations and in allocating funds and also welfare measures to the various sections and distribution of seats to the party workers for contesting in municipal corporations, the Legislative Assembly and Council and Lok Sabha elections.
Chand Pasha demanded 15 per cent jobs and houses to the minorities and the information on the programmes should be made available on websites.
He also demanded four and two seats to Muslims and Christians respectively to contest in the Lok Sabha elections in constituencies, where their population was high and added that the party workers were ready to support anybody selected as candidate by the high command.
He wanted the State Government to issue permanent caste certificates.
He alleged that below the poverty line cards were denied to minorities by the agencies, which verified the records and urged that the process should be transparent and simple.
Bangalore Mahanagara District Congress Committee Minorities Cell also wanted the merit cum means scholarship to be deposited directly to the students account and not through block education officer as it leads to delay.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Labour Department Vice President M Sreeniwasan urged the State Congress President G Parameshwara to field a candidate from the Tamil linguist minority in Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency.
In a letter to the KPCC chief, Sreeniwasan said he was one of the aspirants for the party ticket to contest elections from Bangalore Central constituency.
There are more than eight lakh Tamil voters in the constituency, he said.
There was no representation to Tamils in the State legislature. More than one crore Tamil-speaking population is residing in the State, he said.
