Puttur, Feb 28: The Sampya police here have filed a private complaint in the local court against a woman from Keyyoor who allegedly misled them by falsely claiming that she had been kidnapped.
Naushida (19), wife of Abdul Khader living in Janata Colony in Devinagar, Keyyoor, had informed the police that a gang of three had kidnapped her in a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle. This had not only flummoxed the police, but also created a sense of fear and dismay among the people of the region, it is said.
Police sub-inspector of Sampya, Jagadish Reddy, who conducted investigation into the complaint, found out that the entire episode was a farce. A complaint filed by the investigating officer stands registered in the court.
Naushida had said that a gang of three, who arrived in a Scorpio vehicle, had forcibly kidnapped her when she was walking towards her home after attending a training centre in stitching in Madavu village on the evening of September 25, 2013.
The case had given rise to lot of tensions in the region. Naushida had said she succeeded in escaping from the clutches of her kidnappers at Aramboor. The police later visited Aramboor, held investigation, and interrogated a few. Although the police realized by then that Naushida had hoodwinked them through this cock-and-bull story, they conducted further investigation from different angles, but reached the same conclusion.
An organization had held demonstration in front of a hospital in which Naushida had got admitted on the day of the incident, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved. Once the case proved to be fake, other organizations demanded registering of case against the complainant. Involvement of organizations in these protests gave lot of publicity to this incident, creating awkward moments for the police and theadministration.
The court had issued summons to Naushida. After she appeared before the court, she was granted bail.
