Mangalore, Feb 25: It was an intellectual evening at Orchid Art Gallery here when veteran Konkani poets from Goa Nutan Sakhardande, Maya Kharangate and Nayana Adarkar explored their works to reach out to their audience.
The programme was organised by Kavita Trust in association with Goa Konkani Academy on Saturday, February 22.
The audience was treated to a vast range of subjects from rain, love, motherhood, women, nature to nostalgia and so on. Nayana Adarkar’s poem ‘Itihas Jama’ expressed her longing for her old house and neighbours which are becoming history day by day, whereas Nutan Sakhardande’s ‘Password’ urged her children to leave the passwords of their hearts behind so she could peep into them while they are away from her. Maya Kharangate’s ‘Dhen Dhenlo’ expressed anger on corruption and inflation that are affecting the common man.
While the audience was drenched in the poetry of rain and love, all three poets also voiced emotions and expressions. While Nutan Sakhardande’s ‘Aadoli’ and ‘Daptar aani Pati’ connoted the feelings and aspirations of a woman, Nayana Adarkar’s ‘Shala’ depicted imaginations of a beggar boy about how a school could be, while ‘Darya asoch gajtalo’ by Maya Kharangate symbolized the journey of a person from life to death.
The programme was well attended by an audience of more than 60 enthusiastic listeners. The programme was compered Anwesha Singbal, young poet and the secretary, Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa.
Melvyn Rodrigues, president of Kavita Trust welcomed the audience, wherein he compared the three women poets to Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati rivers.
William Pais, trustee of Kavita Trust proposed the vote of thanks.
