Mangalore: 'Insignia' management fest kicks off at AIMIT

Mangalore, Feb 24: National-level management fest organized by St Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology (AIMIT) - Insignia-2014, on the theme 'A systems thinking approach: The supreme way of design thinking', was inaugurated at the AIMIT Beeri campus here on Monday February 24.

Alex Johnson, the director of Zindal Steel was the chief guest, while the guest of honour was Ivan Fernandes, chairman of Kanara Entrepreneurs (KE) Global.

Founder of Ouola.com Nithin Raj, Fr Denzil Lobo, rector of St Aloysius Institution, Fr Oswald Mascarenhas, chairman, AIMIT MBA, Fr Swebert Dsilva, principal of St Aloysius Degree college, Fr Pradeep Sequiera, administrator of AIMIT, Dr Rowena Wright, dean of academics, faculty co-ordinators PrathibaShetty and Sneha Kairanna, student co-ordinator Mohammed Akram and Management Club secretary Saifudin were present.

In his inaugural speech, Alex Johnson highlighted two recipes for success in life: revolution and success. He mentioned how hard work and dedication were needed to be successful and help society at large. He wished the participants and students all the luck for the upcoming programme.

He added, "Some of the things which we had faced in the past have changed. But values such as honesty, hard work, team work have not changed, they are still the same. By sitting in your office you can do anything. Success is whatever you do best. Finding something new is success."

Ivan Fernandes stressed on the importance of being innovative in today’s globalized environment. Being an entrepreneur helps an individual to stand on one’s own feet, he said.

The Memorandum of Partnership Understanding (MPU) between KEL-Global and AIMIT, St Aloysius College was signed by Ivan Fernandes and Fr Denzil Lobo SJ and was exchanged. This MOU is for mentoring and training the management and IT graduates to be entrepreneurs.

Fr Swebert spoke about morals and the ability of choosing from what is right and wrong. “St Aloysius Institution, was started 134 years ago by a few people and now has two big campuses. We wish our students to give their best and the students have a very compassionate heart which goes out to the poor and needy. You (students) must believe in yourself. You should have the guts to say that you can make a difference,” he said.

Fr Denzil Lobo mentioned the concept of “Systems Thinking” and urged to use these concepts to manage one's day-to-day life. "There are three qualities a leader should have: complexity, sociality and creativity," said by Fr Lobo.

"Our future is not about success. We have seen the history how civilizations have collapsed. We are living in a world where everything is complex. You have to be creative in life. Entrepreneurship is very important. India is a country that has produced many entrepreneurs," he said.

Briefing the participants, on the idea of Insignia 2014, Fr Oswald Mascarenhas urged participants to explore and implement breakthrough innovations.

The founder of Ouola.com, Nithin Raj launched his website along with the other dignitaries on stage.Later, the MBA department's annual magazine ‘CREO’ was released by the dignitaries on the dais and the editorial team. Sneha Kaianna the faculty co-ordinator proposed the vote of thanks. The inaugural ceremony culminated on a high note with the college anthem.
