Mangalore, Feb 24: Whenever there is a new initiative, particularly a government one that aims to benefit the public at large, the maximum rush is to appear on photographs at the inaugural event, to the extent that some of the political leaders do not even mind flouting protocol. This is what reportedly happened at the flagging-off ceremony of three trains at Mangalore Central railway station here on Sunday February 23.
There is a clear guideline about the protocol to be followed in case of public programmes organized by various departments functioning under central and state governments, but of late, there has been an avoidable increase in the number of incidents of flouting the protocol by leaders of political parties.
At the programme organized at Mangalore Central railway station on Sunday, five Congress leaders were seen seated on the dais in utter disregard of established protocol, although the invitation for the programme had clearly spelt out the protocol.
Union minister Oscar Fernandes, state minister for heath U T Khadar, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik, and ZP president Koragappa Naik who were invited as guests were unable to attend the programme. Taking advantage of their absence, the five Congress leaders got seated on the dais, without getting invited.
Several leaders were seen pushing one another to ensure that they get photographed alongside the union minister. Corporator Vinayraj, Congress leader P V Mohan, zilla panchayat member Melwyn and KPCC member Badruddin were reportedly not invited to the dais, but nevertheless, were seen jostling for space. The Congress leaders utterly disregarded the fact that the programme presenter did not mention their names.
