Rs 2 cr released to solve water woes in Udupi: Sorake

Udupi, Feb 24: Vinay Kumar Sorake, minister in charge of Udupi district said that up to Rs two crore released by the state government will be spent to provide drinking water in the district.

He was speaking at a programme to ascertain the progress of various panchayat development projects and distribution of aid held at Kaup and Udyavar.

"Instead of water tankers during summer season, wells and borewells will be dug in villages facing shortage of water. The departments concerned have been asked to start work. As there is no scarcity of funds, more funds will be released when necessary", he said.

"The government has waived principal and interest on loan taken from the government and other corporations under Ashraya project. A part of interest on loan taken by Shree Shakthi groups may also be waived", he said.

"The union government has been requested by the state to extend concessions in CRZ rules similar to the ones allowed in Goa and Kerala. The discussions were held in the presence of union ministers Oscar Fernandes and Veerappa Moily and the confusion regarding CRZ rules will soon be sorted out", he said.

Minister Sorake distributed 2300 BPL cards to 2300 beneficiaries in Kaup, Uliayaragoli, Mallaru, Majooru, Kote, Kurkalu, Innanje, Alevooru, Katpadi and Udyavar. He also gave away 223 monthly pension approved letters to beneficiaries.

He distributed cheques of Rs ten lac each for community halls of minorities in our lady of Fathima Church Mundkur, St Josephs Church, Belman, Saud mother's church Shirva and Sacred Heart Chruch Uchila.

He also gave away a cheque of Rs fifty lac for Baje Mogaveera community hall and Rs four lac loan cheque to Pithrodi Sri Laxmi fisherwomen cooperative society.

In the programme held at Kaup Veerabhadra hall, Kaup gram panchayat president Usha Shenoy, Katpadi gram panchayat president Vinay Ballal, Uliyaragoli gram panchayat president Pradeep U, Manjooru gram panchayat president Jayashree and backward class and minority department official Sheshappa were present.

In the programme at Udyavara Billavara Sangha, Zilla panchayat members Diwakar Kunder, Ida Gibba D' Souza, taluk panchayat members Srikara Anchan, Prescilla D' Souza, Girish Kumar, Ganesh Kumar, Udyavara gram panchayat president Vijaya Kumar, Kote gram panchayat president Prashanth Jathanna, Katpadi gram panchayat president Vinay Ballal and others were present.

Udupi tahsildar Guruprasad welcomed. Udupi taluk panchayat official Manjunath gave a key note address, Kaup excise inspector Ganesh Balegar proposed vote of thanks.
