Mangalore, Feb 24: In connection to the process of internal poll planned to zero in on the prospective candidate for the coming Lok Sabha election from Dakshina Kannada constituency, the work of voter registration began on Sunday February 23. However, party workers were seen complaining about the fact that only a chosen few are allowed to cast their votes in favour of the candidate of their choice.
For the successful conduct of the election, 16 persons deputed by All India Congress Committee have been distributed at the rate of two persons per assembly constituency as polling officers. They reached the respective constituencies and set the work of registering voters into motion.
The work of voter registration will continue till 1 pm on February 25, and the preliminary list will be published in the district Congress office on February 26, and the final list will be published on the next day, it is gathered.
It is learnt that the party observers came across resentment from booth and ward level presidents and office bearers when the process of voter registration went under way in a block in the city. They were particularly angry at the fact that only a few persons have been given the right to vote, neglecting the legitimate right of party workers who have been serving the party since long. They felt that at least booth level presidents and office bearers of the party should have been allowed to cast their votes. Some were against holding of internal poll to decide on the party candidate.
