Mangalore, Feb 23: Louis Lobo, president of the Konkan Overseas Returnees Welfare Association (KORWA) Mangalore and vice-president Elias Sanctis on Saturday February 22 submitted a memorandum to J R Lobo MLA Mangalore South requesting him to try and restore the services of the Air India Express or get any other private airline to operate between Mangalore and Kuwait.
The memorandum expressed disappointment of the KORWA members over the cancellation of the flight services.
"We are shocked that the said services can continue on the extant route of Kozhikode to Kuwait even as it passes a location that has a lot of passengers that use the flight services to Kuwait," it said.
The members further added that being a state owned airline, Air India Express have a social obligation to serve the citizens that travel to and from this region. This service gave a boost to tourism as well as had a positive impact on the economy of the region, the memorandum stated.
"Suspension of the flight will have disastrous effects all around," the delegation said, urging J R Lobo to look in to this matter and put pressure on the civil aviation ministry, union ministers, MPs and other private airlines to introduce new flights on this route if possible and to ensure that the region and its passengers do not suffer on account of the cancellation of this particular service.
J R Lobo assured the members that he would look into the matter.
