Annual convocation of Mangalore University to be held on Feb 23

Mangalore, Feb 23: Governor of Karnataka State, H R Bhardwaj will preside over the 32nd annual convocation of the Mangalore university, to be held on Monday February 24 at the Mangala Auditorium, Mangalagangothri, said Prof T C Shivashankarmurthy, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, addressing the media at the press meet held in the University College Hampankatta, here on Saturday, February 22.

R V Deshpande, State minister for Higher Eduaction and Pro Chancellor of Mangalore University will grace the occasion. Dr K Radhakrishnan, Chairman of ISRO, Govt of India will be the chief guest and deliver the convocation address.

Mangalore University will award 112 Doctor of philosophy degrees (20 arts, 68 science, 8 commerce and 16 education). There will be 38 gold medals and 65 cash prizes. In total, there are 60 ranks (42 PG and 18 UG).

Out of 31,791 candidates appeared for the examinations, 20,486 (64.44%) passed. As far as PG courses were concerned, out of 4002 candidates appeared, 3788 (94.65%) passed: out of 27,659 UG Students appeared 16,579 (59.94%) passed and out of 18 PG Diploma candidates appeared for the examination, 7 (38.89%) passed.

Out of 3788 PG students who passed, boys accounted for 1460 (38.54%) and the girls represented 2328 (61.46%). Similarly at the UG level, out of 16579 candidates passed,5691 (34.33%) were boys and the remaining 10888 (65.67%) were girls. As far as PG diploma examinations were concerned, out of 7 candidates all (100%) were girls.

With regards to the gender composition of total number of candidates passed, out of 20486, 7212 (35.20%) were boys and the girls represented 13274 (64.80%). As far as performance in the examinations is concerned, out of 20374 (except Ph D) candidates passed, 6087 (29.89%) accounted for distinction, 8406 (41.26%) first class 4808 (23.60%) second class and the remaining 868 (4.26%) belonged to third class.

Out of 20486 candidates passed, 1059 (5.17%) (Ph D 110, PG 314, UG 635) will receive their degree in person.

Prof P S Yedapadithaya, Registrar, Narayana, Dr G P Shivaram, Sathyanarayana Mallipatna and others were present.
