Dubai: Music, dance, comedy blend at USWAS annual gala

Dubai, Feb 23: USWAS, an association of Shirva parishioners residing in the UAE, under the leadership of Denis Mathias staged its annual fest 'Shirva Festha Saanz - 2014' at the Al Masah Ball Room, Sheraton Deira, Dubai, on Friday February 21 with glamour and for a cause.

Shirva Festha Saanz provided an evening of variety entertainment to a packed house, with lots of music, songs, fun, games, spot prizes and dances from local talents.

The programme started with a prayer song by all the committee members. One of the most experienced and well known comperes in Mangalore and in Dubai Roshan D’silva welcomed the gathering.

In a brief stage programme USWAS president Denis Mathias welcomed the guests including chief guest Fr Cyprian D’Souza, former assistant priest of St Mary’s Church, Dubai now serving in Mangalore, Wilson D’Souza, vice-president of Shirva Parish Council, George Saldanha, representative of Delmon Group of Companies and Jay Kumar, general manager, Silvertech Engineering LLC, Dubai.

Wilson D’Souza in his speech praised the effors of USWAS members' dedication towards Shirva parish, its surrounding and for extending help to the needy.

He also briefed about the renovation of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva on the occasion of its centenary year celebrations. Chief guest Fr D’souza, in his message, praised USWAS' dedication towards the needy and wished for the success of their future projects. Secretary Laveena Tauro read the annual report of USWAS and vice-president Herald Mathias proposed the vote of thanks. Robert D’sa of Caesars Restaurant and Confectioneries , Joseph Mathias and Family, Shirva (Doha Qatar), Bernard Saldanha of Delmon Group, Sanu Devasia of Safe Max Fire and Safety and Slivertech Engineering LLC were the main sponsors of Shirva Festha Saanz. All the sponsors and well-wishers were felicitated with mementos. Manoj Menezes conducted the stage programme.

The proceeds of this event will be utilized for the renovation of Our Lady of Health Church, Shirva on the occasion of its centenary year celebrations. A total sum of Rs 14 lac was raised for the cause during the evening with the help of USWAS and its generous sponsors.

During the entertainment session the Rising Star of Shirva in UAE Prashanth Sequeira and his members from the newly formed Band Eagles comprising Prashanth, Errol Serrao, Melwyn D’Souza, Nisha D’Souza and Joshal D’Souza presented entertaining songs. They sang some hit Konkani, Hindi, Kannada songs and peppy baila numbers. Couples took active part in the novelty dance and lots of prizes were picked for the dance.

‘Boskeambeghar’ (Claudy, Manoj, Denis Mathias, Sharan, Sandeep and Veena Mathias) provided excellent comedy skits and comedy dance. Hannah and Sarah Mathias presented a dance for an English number. Cleon D’Sa, Shelwyn Mathias, Rahul and Shervin, Anitha and Vanitha, Sandeep, Joshal, Litsa, Marsha danced to various Bollywood numbers, which was yet another highlight of the evening. Roshan D’Silva conducted lots of interactive spot games and fun games for kids and adults and kept the audience engaged till the end.

All the artistes, dancers, and singers were felicitated with mementos. During the event USWAS honoured and bestowed 'Shirvancho Nata Rathn' award to active member Claudius Antony D’leema (Claudy) in grateful appreciation of his outstanding acting skills in the field of entertainment and dedicated to service to USWAS. Franky D’Souza, founder president of USWAS did the honours. A lavish buffet dinner was served on the occasion.

The programme concluded with a raffle draw followed by baila where young and old joined in.

    Well done USWAS-SHIRVA. What a stress releasing event. A very well organized event 'FESTHA SAANZ' with full entertainment. The music, singing, dances, games,food everything was excellent.
