Mangalore: Technologically advanced Kambala begins at Vamanjoor

Mangalore, Feb 23: The spectacular and well-known floodlit ‘Devupoonje Sankupoonje Jodukare Kambala’ was inaugurated in Thiruvail, Vamanjoor, on Saturday February 22.
The Kambala has been organized by the Devupoonje Sankupoonje Jodukare Kambala Samithi under the presidentship of Thiruvailgutthu Naveen Chandra Alva. Vijayanath Vittal Shetty has been serving as the honorary president of the committee.
Head priest of Vamanjoor Amrutheshwara Temple Gopalkrishna Bhat and Gurupur Vajradehi Swami Rajashekarananda inaugurated and blessed the occasion. Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, Naveen Chandra Alva, Ajith Kumar Rai Malady, Sadanand Shetty, Praveen Chandra Alva, Seetharam Janu Shetty, Nittegutthu Raviraj Shetty, Aboobakar Musliyar, Hemalatha Raghu Salian, and Om Prakash Shetty were present on the occasion.
Thousands of spectators have been visiting this Kambala which will conclude on the evening of Sunday February 23. This is one of the well-known Kambalas held in the city in terms of the arrangements made and system in place.
Camera systems at the borderlines track the race buffaloes. There is also a rope camera, heli cam to capture aerial shots, and large LED screen which are some of the unique features that indicate that the traditional Tulunadu sport of Kambala has technologically advanced in every aspect.
Nearly 150 pairs of buffaloes from various categories are expected to take part in this two-day-long Kambala. Numerous dignitaries from various fields are also expected to attend the event.
