Bantwal, Feb 22: A woman, who was married into a family in Kanyana in the taluk eight months ago, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on the night of Thursday February 20. It is suspected that she committed suicide, unable to bear mental and physical torture inflicted on her by her husband.
Savita (27), daughter of Uggappa Gowda from Hirebail village in Moodigere taluk, Chikmagalur district, was found dead at the home of her in-laws.
Sunil, son of Sankappa Gowda from Kanichchar, Kanyana village, had married her. It is alleged that Sunil used to come home in an inebriated condition regularly, and used to abuse his wife physically and mentally.
After Savita tried to commit suicide late night on Thursday, she was brought to a private hospital in Puttur. However, she was pronounced brought dead. The body was then shifted to the mortuary in the government hospital, Puttur.
The parents of the deceased have complained to the personnel of Vittal police station that their daughter decided to end her life, as she was fed up with the intolerable mental and physical agony she regularly suffered at the hands of her husband’s family.
Some injury marks were found in the neck region of the body. Parents of the deceased have also expressed doubt as to whether Savita committed suicide by hanging herself or consuming poison. The policemen said they can come to a definite conclusion about the cause of death after the post mortem and detailed investigation.
