Udupi: Team headed by retired colonel on a mission to Uttarakhand

Udupi, Feb 21: A team headed by retired colonel Ashok Kini H, a resident of Hosdurg in Kanhangad, Kerala is on a mission to renovate the Adi Shankaracharya's Samadhi (tomb) at Kedarnath in Uttarakhand which was damaged in the deluge that hit the state in June 2013.

The team also aims to build confidence in the victims of the disaster and create environmental awareness among the people.

Under the initiative of retired colonel Ashok, the team consisting 15 members will travel over 2,000 kilometers in 123 days. On June 15, 2014, the day marking one year of the incident, the team will reach Kedarnath.

The team will also tour and collect mud in a ‘Kalasha’ from various places where Adi Shankaracharya had visited during his days. Prior to the pilgrimage, the first handful of mud was collected from Piravom where Adi Shankaracharya’s mother had lived. The team has visited places like Kandiyoor, Guruvayur and other sacred places like temples, ashrams, and schools. The team will visit 63 sacred places in all.

On Friday February 21, the team arrived ati at Kondevoor Shirdi Sai Baba Temple in Udupi. Sri Kemar Esha Vittaldasa Swamiji, Totadamane Dinkar Shetty, Ashok Kodevooru, Mahabal Kundar welcomed the team to the city.

Raghav Choudhary, the coordinator of this team said, "Before the start of our tour, we sought blessings of the heads of four Maths established by Sri Adi Shankaracharya symbolising the four Vedas."

A group of Vedic scholars from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, led by Madhur Tiwari, is part of the team.
