Mangalore, Feb 21: Milagres Degree College, Mangalore, celebrated their annual day on Friday February 21 at Milagres Church Hall, Mangalore.
The programme began with a prayer song by the students. Lecturer Priya Sequiera welcomed the guests and the gathering. A floral welcome was given to all the dignitaries on the dais.
Fr Francis Xavier Gomes, principal of Milagres college read out the annual report, the achievements of the college.
Balakrishna, sports coach, Stanley Rodrigues, Ivan D'Souza, Khasim, football coach, Alwyn Rosario, Winston D'Souza, Dr Mamatha NR, Hindi lecturer were felicitated.
Prizes were distributed to the winners by the guests.
Prof Maria D'Costa, Emeritus professor of English, Roshni Nilaya, school of social work, Mangalore in her speech, said that the students are belonging to a great institution.
She said, "The other day when I had gone out I met a person, young like you students, I was impressed by that person's behaviour and I asked that person if he was from any institution in Mangalore? And his reply was from Milagres. I was very happy to meet such a person. When I meet the principal and lecturers I always ask them how is the college and I expect them to say very well. The students must ask themselves if they are worthy to be in this institution or not. The world has become very competitive today and you must be ready to face the challenges. Students should strive for excellence. All the students should make studying as a regular habit and one day they will reach greater heights. You must inspire others and discipline should be your motto."
Fr Valerian D'Souza, correspondent, Milagres college, Mangalore in his presidential speech said, "A day like this is a day to feel happy and proud. You are going to be the pillars of the country. Everyone should be a person with a vision."
Fr Valerian D'Souza said by quoting, "'Vision is the art of seeing what is visibal to others'. Everything that we see in our daily life is a very small beginning from the bottom. Grown and accomplished men are the people who took small steps in their journey of life. Personal visions will guide your lives; have a clear vision and it will bring you happiness. You should be good in every aspect of your life."
Student co-ordinator Mohammed Sameer proposed the vote of thanks. There was a cultural programme by the students. The programme was compered by Shefali Rosario.
