Bantwal: Student assaulted by miscreants, left unconscious at railway station

Bantwal, Feb 19: An unknown group of people allegedly assaulted a college student at Bhandaribettu here on Tuesday February 18 night, and left him at BC Road railway station in an unconscious state.

The victim has been identified as Mohammed Bhasha alias Basith (19), son of Mohammed, a resident of Mularapatna. Basith is a diploma student of a college in Moodbidri.

When the incident occurred when he was on his way from BC Road to Farangipet to pick his friend Rizwan who works at a jewellery store.

It is said that Basith was riding his two-wheeler, when a group of three people came in a Maruti Omni and stopped him. They threw chili powder on his eyes and assaulted him. Basith later said that they even kicked him on the face.

Basith is said to have lost consciousness after the assault. When he came to his senses, he has found himself in BC Road railway station blindfolded. He then came back home and narrated the incident to his family.

Basith alleged that the culprits robbed him of his mobile phone and Rs 1,000. He further stated that he did not recognise his attackers.

On Tuesday night, when he did not return home for long, his family and his friends searched for him. His mobile phone was ringing till 10.30 pm. The person who answered the call from Basith’s father demanded to know who was calling. As Basith’s father got nervous, he disconnected the call and thereafter the phone was switched off.

Police were informed at around 11 pm and Basith’s two-wheeler and the mobile phone cover were traced at Bhandaribettu.

Basith was later admitted to a private hospital at Thumbay and Bantwal police registered a case.
